Default Sewing machine noise on cold startup?

On a heads and cam car, just curious as to why it does this...

A heads/cam car will usually do this even once warmed up. Even many stock LS1s have a bit of the sewing maching sound. It's a combo of noisy valvetrain, and loud injectors.

The noise most people hear on cold start only is piston slap, which is different from the sewing machine sound that's usually heard even once fully warm.

Thicker oil might take care of it. Wouldn't sweat it.

I have heard a lot of noisy LS1's in my day. Sometimes a thicker oil will take care of this sometimes not. I wouldn't be worried about it too much.

as long as it goes away when it warms up then it is not a problem, but don't go beating on it while it is doing this though.

Usually, a high ramp rate cam does it.

its just piston slap, and rocker arms working.

Thicker oil, wouldnt really take care of it.

LS1s are noisy lil suckers, just get use to them cause thats just how it is.

The def. fix for this is a lopey cam and a nice True dual exhaust...then you wont hear the ticking any more!

Mine does it all the time but +1 on letting it warm up first before you go out and beat on it.

MIne was pretty quiet with the previous springs on mine with a TR220/220-551/551. Got really loud after I had the Patriot Dual Gold springs installed. Def. has the sewing machine now. The "slap" on start up has been there since I bought it. I'm used to it from my 02 1/2 truck. Cold mornings it sounded like a coffe can full of rocks.

Let it get to operating temp before you put your foot in it.

If you want a quiet motor swap your LS1 for a FORD 4.6....only bad thing is, you'll notice a SIGNIFICANT power loss.
