Lets say you give it a good amount of throttle, the clutch would slip and it would feel like you have it pushed in half way. Like its not grabbing. Trust me if its slipping you'll know.

What's the bucking and "whoa, whoa, whoa" feel in first gear at low RPMS (sometimes in 2nd at low RPM)?

well drop to first if it is bucking, that would just be the cam surge

I get cam surge with the 224 at low rpm in 1st and 2nd. Not a big deal.

I've also gotten true clutch slip, back when my car was stock. Worst part about it was the "6th gear" load test ALWAYS passed.

To describe it, it'd be the sense of inconsistent acceleration. Imagine you were the passenger and the driver kept modulating the pedal while accelerating, push/release a little/push release a little. You'd get motion sickness from that.

That's the feeling I got when I would go WOT in 1st and 2nd gear. The problem is that both those gears don't last long enough to really determine if what you feel is really happening. Add to that I had a stock suspension that you had to kind of fight and knowing if it was or wasn't there was hard.

Once it started happening in 3rd gear, new symptoms added to that, you could see the RPM rise but the speedometer would "jump". It wouldn't be dramatic, it be kind of the same kind of rise in speed the way a PSI gauge jumps when you pump a tire with a hand pump and it had a small leak.

If it wasn't slipping, both rpm and speed should rise at a consistent rate that is directly proportional to each other. Even if the speedo or rpm gauge is lagged, they will rise consistently together. No spikes or jumps. Also don't confuse any oddities of the speedo/rpm relationship with the lack of traction on your tires when it grabs traction. Keep an eye on both of them from roll runs.

just floor it in 1st and if the rpm's jump up real fast and the tires are not spinning and the car doesnt feel like its moving fast thats the clutch slipping a stock clutch cant handel more then 420hp for along time

well, on my other car, the clutch started slipping. i thought it was just that i didnt shift right but i felt a bucking/jerking when letting go of the clutch. thats pretty much when you know youre clutch is slipping. and keep an eye on your RPMs and speedometer as mentioned above

this reminds me of fun times back when I was parts delivery driver for an auto parts store. We had the Geo Metro's hell ya! They were 5 speeds and the one of them the clutch was so fucked when you would put it into any gear or shifted too quickly and gave it gas the rpms would shoot up and it was as if I was just sitting in neutral. You would have to shift slowly and barely tap the gas to get it to grab. It was extremely irritating. That is slippage.

That's not a slipping clutch, or even a problem (or cam surge). That's not knowing how to drive. I think it has to do with the flywheel and momentum and stuff I don't know well enough to be able to describe. Lighter flywheels are worse about doing that. All manuals will do that if your shifting retarded or accidentally drop the pedal, etc.

If you want to know if your clutch is slipping, put it in forth at 55 and mash the gas. If the RPMS shoot up but you feel nothing, it's probably slipping. If it's slipping bad, you'll just be driving along and all of a suddon the RPMs will shoot up but it's like you're in neutral. At least, that's how it was in my other car way back when.

On my old s10 i drove around on a bad clutch till the friction material was gone and it was hitting the rivets. Grabbed real good then.

I heard that a quick test is if you put it in to 6 gear running about 60mph and mash the the it to the floor and it revs up faster than the speed you gaining your clutch is going out.

basically which ever gear, however fast you are going, you will be able to tell a difference because it will feel like your clutch is not fully engaged. for example any of the above. also if you stomp on it in a high gear your rpms will go up higher than normal and you will be going slower than normal...

if your wondering because your clutch doesnt feel right...something probably is going out

Clutch slip is similar to ****ing a hooker. You think it feels right at first but then it doesn't.

all of what they said is a good way to find out. Just the other day, I did a 5900 rpm shift into 2nd, and it fell on it's nose and the rpms shot up.... Didn't like the feeling of my stomache dropping. So I'll be going with a Textralia in the Spring.
