Do some searching, there have been claims of pulling a motor apart or looking in the pan to see a bunch of sluge built up from using royal purple. Whether or not its true, I've heard this a few times from people claiming the first hand experience with this. Good enough for me to stay away and go with the GC. I haven't heard any had things about it but haven't used it myself either. Currently using M1 5w-30 and not most impressed but will see what happens when I make the pluge to change over this spring. Now to find out what weight to use for the GC as reccommendations seem to differ for what brand oil you are running and definetly the climate too. I live in Canada but it doesn't see any cold weather either way, April to Oct for the car season.

I just run castrol 5-30 in my 408 and change it at like 2,000mi i called LME and thats what thay tolled me to run. In my truck i just get this stuff thats a $1.00 a qt and cahange it like every 10,000 mi and its fine and have had 4 new duramaxs and i put 100,000 mi on them in 4yrs, all i do is plow and tow with them then just get a new one and they run grate so i will stick with the $1.00qt oil for thr truck and the castrol for the car!

well i started using penzoil platinum after my GC 0w30 days as it was getting too hard to find german castrol and i had a huge oil leak... money down the drain.

well i was using it in my 408 vette, as well as my GSX eclipse. noticed a HUGE drop in oil pressure with the 5w30 penzoil platinum.. that stuff is WAYYYYYYY too thin and i also noticed horrible oil consumption on both cars. I changed the plugs in the vette this weekend and they looked like ***. penzoil plantium is far too think and im pretty sure my valve seals didnt like it at all.

switched back to german castrol, so far the plugs look leaps and bounds better, im not noticing any oil usage, valvetrain is MUCH quieter, and besides a little smelly at idle (i run breathers and no PCV) i am completely sold once again on german castrol. the stuff really works well in my vehicles.

my ball bearing 50 trim on the GSX seems to love it as well. the turbo seems to spin much more freely and spooldown when i shut it off seems to last longer (maybe its just in my head though)

Im confused. People claim that one oil is thinner than another even when they are both rated at 5W-30. They should be the same. Thats the whole point of the ratings right?
Cold 5W-30 has the characteristics of 5 weight oil when its cold. Hot it has the viscosity of 30 weight oil. At least thats how I understand it.

So the car should only 'feel' the differences in 0w-30, 5w30, 10w-30 at start up once the engine comes up to temperature it should all be roughly the same. Otherwise the rating system doesnt really work does it. ?

dude somebody please lock this thread.

The whole thing about me saying to run ATF in your car was a JOKE.
DO NOT run straight-ATF in your car. If it was a great idea, everyone would do it.
ATF is NOT designed to lubricate engine components. You want to add some to your oil thats on you.

Hell, while you're at it, next time you're at BP or Exxon, go ahead and take your oil cap off and fill 'er up with 93 octane. that oughta make your car happy. Because we all know gasoline is the best lubricant.

A thirty weight could be anywhere from 25-35, a 40 weight from 35-45 etc. M1 runs on the thinner side of a 30 weight at temp and GC runs on the heavier side at temp. The scale isn't exact.

hey guys. im gonna come find your cars and pour an oil/sugar mixture into your engines while youre asleep if you don't stop posting on this thread. :-D this is pointless.

and for all of you people who posted on page 6 about what kind of oil you use. let's be serious. shame on you. that was handled like 4 pages ago. havent you noticed we've gotten on 4 or 5 off-topics since then?
