Easier way to tell aftermarket parts?
Hey everyone,
AS you know, I bought this 99 off of a guy that knew nothing about it. HE, on the other hand, bought it from someone that obviously LOVED their car.
So here is the question.
How do I tell if things have been modded, as in the Cam, or heads?
I know it has a blue torque converter because the dust plug is gone. How do I tell the stall?
I posted a link to pics in the welcome section, their is a pic of the throttle body, which looks new. How do I tell if its bigger? Injectors?
I would love to find all of this out without tearing it apart.
Thanks guys

it still has egr intact so i would bet there isnt much done to it. that would be one of the first things to go if someone who knew what they were doing worked on it, IMO.
EDIT: slp(or someone) did make an ls6 intake with egr though. hmmm

your first mod should be removing and burning that red wire/hose loom.
looks like an aftermarket Lid, throttle body (by how shiny it is i would think someone ported it) colored maf ends, lca's. that looks like it to me, but i just home from a st patricks day work outing so i may not be up to par with the others here.

check the part # on the manifold then search it. could be an ls6 manifold. most likely a stock ls1 due to the egr.
check the casting #s on the heads see if theyre stock etc
nice lookin car btw. i would definitely paint over those red stripes and change the red tubing for black

Just because the dust plug is gone doesn't mean there is a converter. Why didn't you ask the guy you bought the car from? I am guessing from the pics its pretty much stock as well. LID, MAF,ends, maybe ported TB. It does look like it has a line lock.{Look for a little switch inside the car} It also has Lower control arms...

Where do I find the part #'s on those? Pics?
/agree with the red tubing and stripes. Stereo ring and window/lock pods are red as well. :throwup

I'm hoping for the ported TB.
I have been told that they did not come with blue torque convertors. Mine is blue. It has a stage 2 shift kit also. It is not a WS6. So hood and intake ARE NOT stock (original).

cylinder head part number should be on the drivers side, if youre facing the motor from the front, on the right hand corner. it should be stamped with a 3 digit number (853, 241, 243 etc)

One more question.
What is the chance, and how do i tell if the tranny is not the stock 4le-whatever. lol.
How do I tell if its a TH350 or 400?
I know its only got 50k on it and I know the original owner was a tranny guy. Thats all i know.

The stock converter is not painted at all. If you have that plug to see the converter you have a 4L60E.
The stock transmission has the last six digits of the VIN stamped on it in dot matrix form on the drivers side, I forgot where exactly, I think on the middle side. It's not on the pan rail like the older ones.
