Hey guys, my LS1 is new to me so besides a lid and some free mods it's stock. First thing I am trying to do is get a new catback. I don't want anything too loud since this car is my DD, so I am thinking about going with the Magnaflow. Anyway, how restrictive is the stock catback, and will I notice a difference in the cars feel? Any comments are appreciated.

after my Magnaflow catback install i wouldn't say i "felt" a difference, but it's definately a different driving experience. i don't know about you, but i like hearing almost as good as feeling a difference

You'll feel a difference once you put your "full exhaust" on. See stock LS1's as you know come with a pinched and catted y-pipe which restricts horses. Get some Long Tube headers and and Off Road Y-Pipe and you will definitely feel the difference.

You'll hear more of a difference then you'll feel. The gains from a stock catback to a magnaflow will probably be 7-12 rwhp. When you go from 300 to 310 rwhp it's hard to honestly feel the difference.
But if you do LT headers at the same time as the catback then the gains will be closer to 30 rwhp and you'll probably feel that a lot easier

Thanks guys. Now I will still be running my cats, and as of right now everything else is pretty much stock. I searched around and some posters say a y-pipe can be a waste of money if I dont have anything else done to the car. Sorry to sound so newbish, but is this true?

Don't have one. I havecut-outs (behind QTP headers). Closed, my car sounds stock. Open, it sounds meaner than any car I've ever heard.
Performance for $0: saw off the cat-back from the I-pipe!
If i were just getting a cat-back, I would certainly keep the Y. Get the Y with the headers, for sure.

Magnaflow was WAY too quiet for me. I hate it when I start my car up, and can't even tell its on. No sound at all at idle. I bought the car with it, and did not feel like buying another muffler when I was going to go to TD's anyways, so I just dumped it after the y. It really isnt loud when it is still going through the cats.
Magnaflow sounds good at WOT, but it still is pretty quiet. I got bored with that muffler pretty fast.
Your car will not be loud as long as its going through the stock cats, and manifolds no matter what you put after the y.

I would really look into something else besides Magnaflow. Too quiet imo. Not enough difference from stock to be worth the money imo.
