Default 01 WS6-200000mi and running. Need Advice

I have a 2001 WS6 with 225,000miles. I was given the car by my father who put about 175,000miles on it. He insists the car was maintained "religiously" and I have pampered it since I've owned it. There are no noticeable problems or power losses, but I would like to know what should I do with the engine, meaning, should I rebuild it, replace it, modify it, whatever. The old saying is "if it aint broke don't fix it" I would love to hear your input. Feel free to comment on fuel system, clutch, ignition system, transmissin etc...

I have replaced the OE battery with a DIE HARD PLATNIUM, performed coolant exchange, fuel system maintaince(zoom run rite kit), and I currently use valvoline high mileage(of course) 10W30. I pretty much haven't done anything else.

Id just drive it... hard! Then you'll know when somethings wrong.

I agree, dont fix it unless its broke. I would just do a service on it... ask how long it has been... replace all the fluids. Make sure your not leaking anywhere and call it a day. This also gives you a good chance to get to know the car (and the 'search' button on this site), if its your first fbody. And while your under there you can be checking for any other problems.

Damn well first oof CONGRADULATIONS for having so many miles and still up and running.

I think with that many miles on the motor bolt ons wont hurt it but id stay away from heads, cam and so on. Id seafoam the motor asap and see how it runs after that. If I were you id start building a new motor just incase. WHy go buy bolt ons and maybe put a cam in and waste money if the motor gives out so id buy a shortblock and just start over

Hows the oil pressure on it?

Damn good question. I don't know the actual specifications nor have I taken any readings or paid too much attention to gauge, but thanks to you I will find out ASAP. I do know that after about a month and half, give or take a week, the low oil light comes on. The under carriage is pretty clean, and I don't see puddles or anything in my stall. Once again I haven't "examined" it, but I'm sure with 200k plus a rear main seal wouldn't be too far-fetched.

no reason to do anything other than maintainence if it still runs good. My Z28 has 191xxx on it, just done changing all fluids/filters (alot of people dont think to change trans every 30K or differential fluid etc), take a look at the suspension/bushings (probably getting old) and seafoam it.

other than basic stuff, just drive it till it dies then rebuild/replace.

if the body is still strong, and you have the money, start building up another block.

Just drive it!. You and your father have had great luck with it. Change the oil religiously and drive it til it drops. I would not do a thing to it, the chance to introduce trouble is to risky for my taste. You can be saving money the whole tiime for when and if it does break how ever so your preparred.

Congrats! Thats totally awesome.

Wow congrats thats a ton of miles and its great to hear its still running strong! I would swap out the plugs and wires for some NGK plugs and msd wires, maybe look into a ported ls6 oil pump, change out the fuel filter (if you havent recently), and if your still on the stock clutch then my god thats amazing but if its starting to slip id look into say an ls7 clutch/ls2 flywheel combo.

Ha a 200 shot would probably just clean the thing out I'm with everyone else, just do your routine maintenance and drive it until something goes wrong. That's quite a testament to these motors.

I wanna thank everybody for their input!!! Feel free to keep em coming. Still tryna think up ideas, cause I was just gonna rebuild after the summer but I think I'll juss wait til she breaks down to completely overhaul it and just keep saving up for the time. Al Bundy made his dodge rollover 000,000 and dodge gave him that viper remeber. Only "Married with Children" fans understand.

If you get a chance to check the oil pressure, get back to us -- I am a little curious. Best of luck with the car and keep us updated when it hits the 250k mark.

The current oil pressure will let us know how close the engine is to needing to be rebuilt. Regardless, I'd start looking at some performance engine rebuilt kits. It's only a matter of time before it actually goes, so having something ready will let you get another 200K miles out of it when it does go - well, maybe, you know what I mean.

congrats,

Al Bundy did not get the Viper cuz remember it rolled over with out them recording it, so he went out and drove it out to put the miles back up, and that was the end of the episode
