Default removing cats

Someone told me there was a company that makes straight pipes to bolt in place of the cats.... i just think it'll hard to get a welder up there, anyone know who makes the straight pipes with the flanges, or know where i can get the flanges?

You need to get a non catted Y for stock manifolds. Cost about $200.
The only other option is to cut your cats out and use the flanges but it's a real pain in the *** to get the angle right to weld it back together.
Theres a guy on this site that buys cats with the ends cut off, he pays I think $140 a pair so there more than half your non cat Y right there.

I have a car with gutted cats (2001 Z28) and one with LT's and an ORY (2002 SS).
The codes are tuned out, the tune is stock, gas mileage is average of what they were stock.

I get better gas milage without cats. Could of been factored into other supporting mods though.

I say stay with the Cat's unless you plan on doing LT's. Even then it adds more rasp to the sound of your Exhaust. It seems like a lot of work for maybe 5 HP dont you think?

Doesn't add more rasp. I was putting the car back together, I didn't take them out to gut them and put them back in. I don't think I'd take them out of a running car to gut them, I'd go with the pipe.

That pic is from WS6store, on the sponsors list to the right.

Removing stock cats will not do anything for your gas mileage..1 way or the other...unless they were old/clogged...then you will get better..but really not noticable.

i think can think of better ways to spend the money imho.
is it nuts to do it, no.
Its a figure of speach as in "screw that" or "F that" not that people don't do it, or shouldn't. I would just rather spend the money on other things imo.

what would I rather do?
intake, rockers, full exhaust (why stop at just long tubes), time on the dyno. I bet you could squeeze an ez extra 20 hp out of a stock engine with stock exhaust with just a trip to the dyno. If I got an extra 30 out of an L67, im sure 20 out of an ls1 isn't too much to ask for.

just my .02
