98 Trans Am down on power
A little backround on the car. The original motor was hydrolocked last year and we replaced it with an 02 LS1 crate motor. We used the 98 intake and EGR on the 02 motor. We also kept the 98 PCM in place. The car has never had and aftermarket tune installed. The car takes a couple of cranks to start then runs smooth. When you got WOT, the car is smooth but doesn't pull strong at all. It does have and SES light on, but it's for bad 02's (front and rear), which shouldn't matter at WOT. Here are some mods:
Lid
ORY
B&B catback
Shifter
Here are some things we've done over the past year.
Multiple MAF sensors
New Fuel Pump and filter
Check TPS volatage, it's good
Plugs and Wires
The next thing we were thinking was to pull the injectors and see if they are clogged.
Any ideas?

anytime you change anything affecting the motor you should get it tuned as it changes different aspects of airflow...thats why you do everything at once so you don't pay a fortune for a dynotune. IE...my car ran great before I got it tuned. Turns out it was way lean, could have hurt my motor if I would have waited

so whats the deal with stuff like hypertech tuners if you should get a dyno tune. like i have k@n air charger flomaster exhaust aluminum drive shaft and im selling my hypertech tuner to get a hyper pack tuner should i forget the tuner and get it dyno tuned?? or are you guys saying that he needs a tune just beacuse he has a new engine. shouldnt the car computer compinsate for the better air flow by itself.

to a point the computer can compensate but eventually if you keep adding mods you'll have to get a dynotune. If you can tune the car yourself by all means keep doing so and save yourself money in the long run.

might also seem down on power since you have a 02 crate motor... they have a smaller cam than the 98-00, and w/o the ls6 intake it will be slower than your old 98 was...
