Default Wiring Harness & PCM Compatibility

I am speaking with regards to '99+ cable throttle PCM's and wiring harnesses. I have a '01 LQ4 that I am swapping into my '89 Camaro and am trying to figure out what my options are, as far as the wiring harness and PCM go.

So, are all '99+ cable throttle truck wiring harnesses compatible with the '99+ cable throttle car PCM's? For example, would an LQ4 engine/trans harness work with a '99 LS1 Corvette PCM? How 'bout a 5.3L truck harness, with the 'Vette PCM?

why use the vette PCM? if your going with the 5.3 harness why not use the 5.3 pcm? or is it called an ecu on a gm, well whatever......the 5.3 computer is just as programable as the others to my knowledge.........

I used the 'Vette PCM in the example, because thats what I have. I'm not necessarily going with a 5.3L harness, I just want to know if I can. I'm asking because at first I was looking for just f-body harnesses, but after a month of looking I havn't found one that is cheap (~$200), not DBW, and for an automatic. Basically, I'm trying to widen my search to include other compatible wiring harnesses. I just don't know what harnesses can go with what PCM's.

Well, that could change everything... And I think you're probably right, at least according to this(DBW mentioned in the last paragraph).

Hmm, so I guess that leads to the question: Can I use this '99 'Vette PCM with any of the newer truck DBW harnesses?

possibly, i would assume most of GM's PCM's are comparable, especially in the GEN III family powered vehicles.

Yeah, as would I... I thought I read somewhere, though, that the earlier PCM's with RED/BLUE connectors cant work with later GREEN/BLUE connector type harnesses... Does that sound right?

Another question: Could I flash this '99 Vette PCM to a cable throttle OS and use an F-Body harness? I thought I read somewhere that certain DBW PCM's don't have an IAC driver (which would be needed for a cable throttle setup), but that may have been only for later years... Or I could be totally off base altogether...

Found where I read that... But that is with regard to 1meg PCM's, a '99 Vette PCM is 512kb according to this article... So, I guess my question still stands...

It's cool, thanks for your help. I was leery of throwing this out in the PCM section, thought it might be too nooby of a question.

I sent an e-mail to Speartech with some more specific questions about my situation. I'll post the answers here, it might be of some use to someone down the road.

Also the truck harness is shorter then the f-body harness.......so you might have to mount your pcm in the engine bay....just food for thought.......

either them or TSP, they do tuning on all Gen III motors in cars and trucks, they would know too.

Thanks for the heads up. At this point, though I just want a nice cheap harness no matter what. But, apparently the words "cheap" and "wiring harness" don't often go together.

Anyways, here's what Speartech had to say:
The Corvette PCM can easily be reprogrammed to work with a 99-02 F-body cable throttle harness.

It is not compatible with the 03 DBW truck harness. That uses a different style PCM and DBW throttle body.

All of the earlier PCM's (99-02) had drivers to support both DBW and cable throttle.
