Default Ok, what are CUTOUTS?

I hear about everyone getting "cutouts" all the time and quite frankly, I haven't a clue what everyone is talking about.

valve that dumps your open exhaust before it gets to the mufflers, more free flowing and picks up a few hp and sounds better (to most).
manual version is just a 3" or so Y tubing with a bolted cap on the end. electronic version has a butterfly valve.

A cutout is a Y pipe in the exhaust system. 1 section of the pipe runs to the mufflers for a tame muffled sound, the other end has the ability to be block/opened to release backpressure and have a open exhaust setup, often to avoid restrictions of catalytic converters and restricted mufflers.

Mostly performance, but some do it for the sound as well.

both, it will be a lot louder with them open, and you get more hp/tq up top.
