Sure, why not? I've seen plenty people waste money on catbacks that didn't sound all that peachy. Honestly, these cars with nothing but a hacked muffler sound great.

If you're looking into a catback anyway, cut it off before you head to the shop. If you like it, cool. If not, you were planning on a new muffler anyway. It's a win win situation.

That's the thing...no they don't sound great. Its just NOISE and i couldn't tell you if that was an LS1 camaro or some beat up pick up truck. That is how similar your car sounds to a truck now.

A cut-out does not sound better or even as good. I had a cut-out and it sounded decent, but also was very loud inside the cabin. I know a lot of people don't like SLP, but their Loudmouth II exhaust was actually pretty nice sounding. Not to mention it wasn't very expensive. And don't confuse it with the Loudmouth I which sounded like ****. Here is my car with the Loudmouth II. http://www.electronicsandcomputing.com/car/MVI_0066.avi

Please dont cut off your muffler. A cutout is so much better, not only do you have the option of making it quieter when the time calls for it, but the non-ghetto factor is also a big plus if you respect your car any.

On a catted car it sounds pretty good hacked, but I've never been a fan of an O/R exhaust with a cut out. Then it does sound like beat up C10 with ladder racks and truck nuts.

After swapping in long tubes and the off-road Y, I bolted a Sweet Thunder to the end of it. I dig the sound of it, so here's some clips.

Nice sound, simple design, cheap price

i cut off my muffler, and I get compliments all the time...i like the way it sounds at WOT, but cruising around is mediocre. I ran an open cutout all the time on my LT1, and i shoulda just cut the muffler off. I'm looking to get an SLP LM2 soon, just so my car can have tips again. If i don't pick it up soon, I'll be waiting til winter and getting LTs and true duals...

Also..think about your next mods.

LM1/LM2 does sound good on a stock car....but when combined with long tube headers and offroad y-pipe..IMO they sound horrible

a cutout on a stock manifold car can decrease your power. you can ask 01pewter2001z28 what it did to his car. They are tuned for back pressure and when you drastically change that w/o a tune it can do more harm than good. no muffler with cats or w/o sounds like ****. if your not turning that bitch 9k or 10k rpm at the track theres no sense in it. Get a Y and a decent catback and youll have a hell of a good sounding car w/o being called white trash.

It's free, if you don't like it, buy a catback or get a band clamp for $8 and put your stock stuff back together.

Easy answer. Unbolt it at the front of the catback and see how yo like it on your own car with no muffler. Then decide before you hack it up or spend money so you know what you like on your own car.
