I've had mine on for maybe a month or two, and no problems at all. From what I gathered, the people who did NOT trim the fernco to fit better had problems with cracking - the people who DID trim it to fit didn't have problems.

Now when you say trim, what do you mean?? I understand that you lay the stock bellow next to the fernco and cut it to the right angle, but what do you mean by "trim". I am about to do this on a 00 TA and dont want to mess anything up. if you can give my some leads, I would appreciated it much.

thanks

Cutting to match the correct angle is what he means. It also helps to hollow out the same end to get the best fit. The less you have to force it to get it on the better it will flex later. A good tip is to put everything ALL on loose. Then when you have it all fitting good and at the right angles, tighten it down.

Mine was easy to install. No cutting required. You put the end in very hot or boiling water for about 30 seconds and it becomes very soft and plyable (sp?) it went on and looks very clean. It is very thick rubber and I have had no cracking yet. It's my weekend driver so I don't drive but 2000 miles a year but it's been on since January and still looks good. It's a little harder to get the filter in/out but you can lift it just enough to do it. It's by far the cheapest mod so far next to the FRA which cost nothing........

And thats the name of it(fernco)? Cause you know if you ask someone about a piece of rubber for the intake on the car they will tell you to try auto zone or something. What section was it in Onyx z? How much was it?

It's in the plumbing section. I got mine at Home Depot. Easy to find..... Comes with 2 nice stainless clamps also.

Excerpt taken from this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/threads/showflat...31&fpart=1

I decided to keep mine out of the microwave.

I trimmed the end of the fernco that goes onto the TB from about the middle to the top, so it makes about a 20-25 degree angle. Just set it down next to your stock bellows and trim it so that the angles are the same. I also trimmed the inside of the fernco just a little, where it slides onto the TB. I think that helped a lot.

To install it, I pushed it on the TB, then from the inside of the fernco I pushed outward so that it stretched a little and slipped right over the TB (the fact that it was almost 100 degrees outside may have helped make it more pliable ). After the fernco was secured on the TB, I pushed the rest of the intake assembly (already put together) onto the fernco. It slid right on the MAF and everything pushed right into place.

Got mine at Home Depot, BTW

Fernco is the company that makes it. It's called a 3" to 3" hose, should be in the plumbing section. Costs around $5

If you want another way to judge how much to cut, you can do what I did.

Take your lid, with maf connected, and reinstall it WITHOUT the bellow. Measure the top, side, and bottom gaps between the edge of the maf and throttle body where the bellow will rest. For example, I had a 2 3/4 inch gap on the top, 3 inch gap on the sides, and a 3 1/2 inch gap on the bottom (I have a TNT kit). I measured each of those distances on the Fernco hose from the edge touching the throttle body to the middle. Make a mark on the hose and cut.

Cut conservatively, and trim more if needed. If you mess it up, the hose is only $5.

I didn't cut mine. It had a ridge for the clamp to fit in on each end to keep the clamps from sliding off. Plus I think after it's in place it takes a set, mines solid with just enough flex for the torque movement of the motor.......
