Drivetrain clunk!!! Help
Hello all,
I have a 2002 WS6 w/ a 6 spd. Yesterday it started to make a clunking noise. It only happens in neutral after a few seconds when I have stopped. When I hear the noise my rpms drop a little. Don't know where to start. I will stop driving it until I know whats going on. Please help. The weather won't be nice for long and I still want to drive it before I have to put it away.
Thanks,
Scott

No, not really. My shift **** does. I can feel it. The noise sounds like it is coming from the front half of the car. Sometimes I'll hear the clunk two seperate times spaced 10 - 15 seconds apart while the car is stopped.

This noise only happens when the car is out of gear and in neutral. Letting off or pressing the clutch creates no sounds. It is only in neutral after the car has stopped. The only other sound I hear is a quiet high pitch squeal when my car is coasting around 15mph. Almost like breaks squealing but I am NOT pressing on the breaks. That noise also stops in a few seconds or if I speed up. Not sure if this relates or not. If we can't figure this out I will let everyone know what my problem was after I get it fixed. Thanks.

Just an idea but if you feel it in the shifter, you might want to check out your tranny mount and see if that is cracked or broken. Rubber only lasts soo long. If its not that try checking other bushings.

i would think maybe the driveshaft or the u-joints...try disconnecting it and see if the noise is still there...btw brakes can squeak even if your not pressing the brakes if the wear sensor is touching the rotors...good luck! keep us posted
