The tricky thing about the LT1 cars is that the bolt patterns for the bell housings are the same as gen 1 SBC engines. So no LS1 4L60Es will work. Granted, I could always switch out bell housings though. For all I know it could be something as simple as a fuse, just have to check all the options. But if it really is the trans its self, I'll just be garaging it for awhile unless I can find an extremely cheap matching replacement.
Or if Steve is interested, we can give rebuilding it a shot.

It's not the bolt pattern that is different, it's the depth of the bellhousing and torque converter. The the bell housing bolt pattern is the same. You can swap bell housings to a short early style one, swap out the input shaft in the trans for the early style, and run the early LT1 style converter and it's all good! Not that you would go that route, but I've done it so I know it can be done.

I have a few questions. Im building a 2000 s10 and am thinking about going LSx and t56.
If i go 5.3 and 6 speed with the 5.3 auto computer work with a t56? If so what harness do i use? The 5.3 or the 5.7 for the camaro or whatever the trans comes from? This will be a street truck thats mostly stock other than a small blower. If the truck was being built for racing all the time it would be a stalled auto but im more going for streetable and fun to drive.
Thanks for any help.

Shane I have a book I got years ago that showed what needed to be done to put a lsx into a s10. IDK about the computer question. I will have to see if I can dig it up. Very unlikely with the way my ol' lady cleans though, could be anywhere

There is detailed info in the trans section here on tech. There are just a few wiring changes you have to make to enable a swap between transmission types. And possibly someone makes an adapter harness.

If i can find someone that has done it and can just tell me what to do i can mod my own harness.
Chris, see if you can round up that book. Ill pay you to let me barrow it if i do go that route. I change my mind more than i change clothes lol.

Josh, that driveshaft /u-joint I got from you fits a 1350 yoke right? I need to order one and I just want to make sure I'm buying the right thing. I'm not sure what yoke mine has now but I know a stock Camaro u-joint fits it and it is way to small for the one I bought from you. I'm going to try to get the car done this weekend.
