Best nitrous stall speed for my car
I am going to run a local 275 class this year called real street. A little tamer than x275. I will start by saying I haven't sprayed my car with the converter I have now. But from what I have been reading I don't think that is the best for my set-up. I need to know what you guys recommend. Stall speed and brand.I am pulling the trans due to a problem and figured it would be a good time to change the converter.
My set-up
10.8-1 comp. 408
Ported l-92 heads
ported GMPP intake w/ accufab 4150 TB and nos cross bar plate
TH400 w/ PI 3800 nitrous converter( BTW My trans has been pushing fluid and I think it is the cause. I sent it back once.)
3.73 gear on a 28" tall tire And the cam is speced for a 300 shot and I am supposed to shift at 7500 on the nitrous.
Curerent race weight will be right at 3280.
This is a vid of several passes so you can see how its launching NA w/ a race weight of 3600.

The current converter may do very well on the nitrous. Nitrous will raise you stall speed 500 rpm plus. Especialy if you are spraying 300 hp. So if you raise your stall speed and put the juice on it you will make a massivce jump in your stall speed.
If you spray a moddest 150 hp of nitrous then you will have your current stall up to the mid 4000 range already. I would spray the current converter before changing it out. See how it goes then make changes from there.

I agree with custm2500, on the jug that 4000 is going to flash to 4500, so it may work out good for you... It seems everyone else that posted in this thread other than custm2500 is not taking the spray into consideration... and op imo i would send your converter to fti for a refresh, contact greg he will get you dialed in!!

What is the jet limit for the class? 82?
Are you going for max effort for the class?
I think you need to get away from the typical LS1 converter guys.
We have used PTC, Coan, Neil Chance all with good success.
For a th400 you want the shift ext. (how many rpm it falls back after each shift) to be 1,000-1,200rpm. Your shifting at 7500 so you want it to fall back to 6500 when all the nitrous is on. I think your going to need at one that brake stalls to at least 5,000 to go the fastest.

I took it off for the last couple of passes because I wanted to hear if something was wrong with the motor or spinning , trans slip.
From theose video's I got the weight down to 3530 and my fastest pass was a 10.70 @ 126 NA on pump gas. I spun on the 10.70 run which give me my best 60ft. also of 1.58.
It'll pick up a little bit on the spray hopefully. That and I have been busy getting the weight down on the car.
It is a 82 jet limited class from HPJ. What Brand converter do you recommend. And if I understand you correctly I need a converter that stalls 5,000 on the motor.

No, We tried shifting any where from 6800,7200, 7500,7800, 8000 and the best times were on the 8000 shifts by a couple of tenths. And we checked the logs to verify that those shift points were right. Pat G said the cam should be shifted at 7200 on the nitrous. I think my heads flow to much for the size and comp. of my engine NA. That's why I have to turn the **** out of it to make any power.
