I was just wanting to know what everyone thinks about my cam choice and setup will do with a healthy shot of N2O. (300 shot)

Cam-252/258 641/652 on a 110 lsa
WCCH 245cc heads
408 iron block
Vic jr intake
th400 4K stall
fab 9"
F-body 3300lbs

I know the cam will be great N/A but I just need more input on the nitrous side.

Wider split and more lsa.
248/264 on a 115 something like that.

You think the 115 will work with the vic jr? Reason asking is that my cam was a 112+4, and I lost the whole bottom range of torque with that LSA. Mine is a stock cube car, does that make it apples and oranges?

Gonna lose torque with a vic jr. but thats whats the N20 is for.

And yes the extra 60 cubes helps make some more torque.
Not saying you coundnt use a 112 lsa but it doesnt seem like a "ALL OUT" nitrous cam with that lsa.

i would install that cam atleast 2* advanced im guessing its recomended to be in at 110 i would install at 107 or 108.

Wait a minute.....We need to discuss this. I'm getting a new cam this year, along with some other upgrades, and I've been told by a few fairly reputable people to look at 108-110. Help me out here Wayne

Dunno, I am no cam guru but every cam in my car for the last 5 years has been 115 or 116.
Like I said maybe I'm wrong.
We started last year with a 28x/29x 87x/91x .... 116 (yes 900 lift)
Went to a smaller cam mid season and picked up a little but that one was a 116 also.

Seems like a 108 would be good for a all motor and small shots to me.
Alot depends on RPM, heads, intake, exhaust, amount of N20.

I agree with atv, if you want a cam that is taylored for the jug, get a wide lsa such as a 115 or 116... Check out thunder racing, all of thier power adder cams are spec'd on a 115-117 lsa range.

All the cams that I saw on thunder racing that say anything about "works well with nitrous" are 110 to 112

yes about any cam will work well with nitrous up to about a 200shot. When you get a cam specd specifically for spray the lsa is generally 114+. Atv is spraying 350+ running low 5's in the 1/8, So Id say he has a clue. If you dont want to sacrafice power off the bottle then go with a 110-112 lsa. But if you plan on spraying over 200 the lower lsa cams won't be as "efficient" per say.

That cam was a little much for our lil 396 thats why it picked up with a smaller cam. (wasnt a whole lot smaller but enough to make a difference)

Now with this big motor we are building I'm thinkin the cam will be a little bigger than either one of those.

i ran a 110 in my 427 solid roller. 73x, i installed at coms recomended 110. i then advanced it and instaled at 107.5 and picked up over a tenth on motor and lost nothing on spray. that was with a 200 shot. to me a 300 shot is a mild spray set up. 200 is small and 150 is baby so imo a tight lsa is better on a mild shot. if your spraying big and want all the power on spray only then a wide lsa is a bit safer, i dont think its going to be as fast tho.
the cam itself isnt something i would spec, but its not bad. i would normaly go with 9-12 degree diff so say 248/258 to rid some heat, but with the right tune up this cam will make power.
like i said tho ive always advanced my cams, i have been around small and big blocks a long time and i know a lot of guys who build fast ones and little tricks like advancing a cam is something not many did or do with ls1's because so and so says not to. i do it and it seems to work. i will be going to the track tomorrow with a pretty much cam only motor in my white car, we shall see how she runs. very mild cam. 227/235 on a 112+4 and its installed advanced an extra 1.5 degrees


all these cams you can by are mostly tested on the dyno and make power on the dyno, a lot of them are not the best for the track. i always custom grind my own cams. im not a shelf cam guy. ive tried it and found my customs are smaller and run faster track times
