Default 175 shot ignition issue

I had a nitrous kit installed and it is not working correctly. It is a zex kit with a window switch, 175 shot on a 408 with an mp 112 making 5 lbs of boost. The tune is good, AFR is good, fuel delivery is not an issue, 60lb injectors and the nitrous kit has a stand alone fuel system from nitrous outlet.

The nitrous works in first gear but in second and third, where there is more load, it starts breaking up at about 4500 rpms

I was told this is an ignition issue and that the spark is being blown out. I put new TR6 plugs in and had them gapped down to 20 and the problem did not go away. I ordered plug wires this morning to see if that is the issue. I don't have the funds to buy new coil packs so I hope it is the wires. From what I have read the stock coils can hold up to a lot more horsepower than I am making.

I was thinking about trying a smaller shot but don't want to have to go that route. Has anyone had this problem? Need some help guys.

This is on a 2004 SS Silverado.

I have been a member for a while and usually just search the forum but i am stumped.

Considering most dont like TR6s for small shots alone..on a stock motor. Im guessing its a very bad choice for a built 408 with a charger and nitrous.

I agree get he NON PROJ 8S then gapped them at 32 dont do 20.
1 check your ground wires
2. check your voltage. your altnator could be going out or your batterly low amps will cause a kit to not work properly.
3. Double check the setting on your controler.

You need a plug colder than a 7

A b8ef would be the next plug colder, but I'm not sure if that would be cold enough. Give us a little more info about the setup. CR, cam, etc. I'm also curious to know what your IAT's are.

a good built 408 needs a 8-9 on the motor 5 lbs of boost and a 175 shot easily 10's(or id put 11's cause your not going to see a difference.

IF your not looking at the plugs you have no idea if the tune is right. just saying uyou have a good pump, standalone etc does no0t make the tune correct.

I would definitely slow down sir. Who is tuning the car? If your having spark issues how do you know the tune is good? You dont want to try smaller shots? As in you just stuck a 175 shot in it? You have a 2 power adder 408 and coil packs are pricey for you?

I really suggest you take a step back.

CR is stock LS2 compression. Camshaft 224/228 .581 .588 114+4. The IAT's I don't know but they are probably ridiculous with that 112 with a 2.7 pulley.

Its not that the coil packs are too pricey, I just dont see throwing $650 at the problem when nobody one on 3 forums has mentioned coils. Yup, 2 power adder 408 for my 5000 lb truck. I posted on this forum because you guys seem to have more knowledge than some of the others. As for a smaller shot. I tried a 100 shot yesterday and the same **** happened.

Thanks for all your help nitrous express.

First off you have the wrong heat range plugs. I would start with a non-projected 9 or 10 heat range. Unless you're very experienced with N2O, why start with a 175 shot? You are going to blow your engine very fast with what you are doing.

5 lbs of boost and a 175 shot should start off between 10*-12* of timing also. If you are running pump gas in the tank, the stand alone should have 118 octane.

From what I've read, I see major issues coming to a head real fast if you continue on the path you've started.

A healthy stock ignition will handle where you are attempting to go. Fix your tune and install colder plugs and report back with your results.

I had the same issue and it was a bad ground.... Not a good enough ground to keep the nitrous solenoid closed. Make sure you have adequate grounding both to the solenoids, and to all the engine grounds.

Mine was a broken engine harness to chassis ground.

Good luck

Put the br7ef plugs in today and new wire's. we lowered the fuel pressure on the stand alone, tested the battery and alternator and put the 150 jets in. The plugs made a world of difference and truck is running much better. It is still breaking up a little bit but nothing like it was. I am going to order some 8's and see what happens.
