Stock ls1 needs a good n20 cam!
I am thinking about rebuilding an ls1 for my 98 camaro and throwing on a 100-125 shot. Im looking for the best n20 cam for this stockish set up. It will have headers and supporting bolt ons. The car was turbo before. I also have a set of 5.3 heads that have 243 casting numbers that will go on the engine as well. Help me with a good cam choice! Thanks

Is this set up on a stock motor? Don't u have to fly cut the stock pistons with the ms4 I am also debating on using a 6.0 iron shortblock and slapping on the 5.3 heads to bump up the compression.

I have the ms4 and I love it, BUT, I have been told that with the duration of the cam, prob wouldn't do so hot on anything over 200-250. If your going to build it for the nitrous, just get a custom grind, but if all your gonna hit it with is 150 max it would be fine. With the heads, idk if you have to flycut, im on stock heads and i didn't have to flycut. 150 shot hits good for me.

the car is an auto. i thought i had read some were that the ms4 cam required fly cutting it will only be a stock block so no more of a hit then 150. the heads have the casting number 243 but came off of a tahoe that was wrecked and this tahoe was bone stock. i was told it had the same cc as 5.3 heads but was a 243 mold.

If the heads came off of a 07+ 5.3 then they should be 799 castings which are basically same heads as LS6/ 243# . If they are then you shouldn't have to flycut but would def check PTV clearance. EPS has some really good grinds that are alot smaller cam than MS4 but would net you 130+ trap speeds and better driveablity with the auto. You would prob need @ least 3600 converter but prob 4000 to work properly with MS4 cam. Check out thread in Dyno section, screename TXCAMSS. He made 430rwhp with LS6 heads, mild cam, ls6 intake through 4l60E and 3600 converter. Car has 3.23 gears and ran very low 11 @118-120 on motor. That same setup would def run 10's and trap 130+ on 150 shot.

i just read on his set up. seems like a killer daily. im definitely torn between cam and nitrous and turbo. i have looked at the t rak and rex cam. both seem to work some wonders also.

looks like a killer set up. i am tossed in between going the original route which was a turbo up front and a fresh motor with a big cam and a hit of some juice? really leaning towards the turbo as of now

if they are 243's, then they are ls6 heads. if you want the most out of your combo, have pat g or geoff@eps spec you a custom one. if you want an off the shelf cam, you cant go wrong with the ms3+spray...look at camscam
