Default h/c 200 shot with br7's ?

Currently I have br7's for a 175 [n.o 90mm plate wet setup] shot, but was thinking stepping up to a 200 shot. Would the br7's suffice or I need to step up to the 8's? I remember when I first switched from tr6's to br7's the car's performance dropped [or felt that way] when running n/a. Would I see a performance drop on the 8's from the 7's? can I run more timing n/a to compensate the colder plug? .. what you fellas think?

I would say that you are borderline needing the 8's on the 175 now. How much compression? Do you know what it makes on motor?

i've been spraying a 200 shot on my 5.3 with ac delco r42lts plugs and the plugs look great (its like a br6ef plug)... i think you'll be fine with the 7s. i wanted to up the shot on my car so i dropped in some br8ef plugs and noticed a big drop in performance, enough that i threw some new r42lts plugs back in. i think i have the 8's laying around i only drove on them for a week if you want to give them a try ill let them go cheap.

thanks, if I decide to go with the 8's i'll p.m you. I have 8 new br7's that I had purchased some time ago, i'll probably just go with that and lower the timing from 20* to 18* for the 200.. Should I use their gap out of the box @28... I was running 32 gap for the 150-175 shot

i gap mine at .032ish... and personally i think you'll be fine with 20 degrees of timing, i run 23 on mine (but all motors are different, start low).

A general rule of thumb is 1 step per 100 HP. We have a couple guys here spraying 200 on the br7's.

When I switched from TR6's to BR7's I didn't notice a drop in n/a performance whatsoever. If you could actually "feel" a drop in power after the plugs i'd be very surprised, and have to think it was attributed to something else

I have never noticed a difference in performance, either.

What is the compression ratio of your motor? The higher the compression the colder the plug to start with. If your motor is pretty much stock 7s will be fine. Anything over the 200 really needs to be 8s.

If your cars performance dropped from the plug change you needed to clean up the tune to match the plug you are running.

i've read that alot of people claim to loose little or no power, but i definitely felt the power loss on the butt dyno... i would like to see a side by side dyno comparison i would put money on it being like 10+ hp

As Dave said its probably a deal with the tune. It will feel more responsive if you get the tune cleaned up and drive-ability will be much better. I remember a thread on here where a guy posted his NA numbers before and after the plug swap and he was only down like 6 horsepower if i remember correctly.

what would need to be "cleaned up"... spark adjustments while cruising/at idle/as needed?

what trap speed increase you guys usually see going from a 175 to a 200shot, 2-3mph?

I would take your money. Absolutely 0 difference. Changed plugs on the dyno to boot. The 7's will be fine for 200 shot.
