I have a slight change of direction in regards to the cam/valvetrain. Kip Fabre from Cam Motion is shipping me a low lash solid lifter roller cam to be used in the aluminum block. We are going to try a custom solid roller and see how it does instead of the G5x3 hydraulic. I removed the heads and LS7 lifters today and should receive the solid roller set up next week sometime. I will most likely hold off from hitting it with the spray until I have a few miles on this set up to make certain it is working well.

Out with the old and in with the new.
Here's a picture of my LG G5x3 on top and the Cam Motion Solid lift low lash spec'd cam from Kip.
Had my machinist set up the Brian Tooley dual springs.
Dropped in the tie bar lifters, torqued down the heads and installed the cam. Waiting for pushrods now but hopefully get this thing fired up soon.
Rockers have extremely tight tolerance and I still have to figure out what valve covers will work.

Thanks. 241 heads are very capable heads with a little work. Blended bowls, tapered guides, removed the swirl ramp, removed the rocker boss, polished the exhaust and 5 angle valve job. We will see how they perform. When and if I do upgrade it will be to an aftermarket head.

A solid roller system requires the solid cam, solid lifters, adjustable rockers, the correct springs and custom length pushrods. I am using the Morel Ultra Pro tie bar lifters but guys should be able to get away with the less expensive morel stock tray drop-in lifters. I am unsure how quickly the oil will return to the pan since a solid lifter set up pumps more oil to the top of the engine...that's why I chose to run the tie bar and eliminate the trays. I didn't want to take the chance since I just forged the bottom end.
You only need to use larger pushrods if you run crazy spring pressures but would most likely need to increase the pushrod hole in the head or use an aftermarket head. My spring seat pressure is 140-145 closed and under 400 on the nose so we chose standard good aftermarket pushrods and hopefully they will be adequate. We will find out soon enough. The lifters are very short and it's going to require a very long pushrod at 8.150 so I have my fingers crossed that they can handle the rpm. The pros tell me it will be fine.
Stay tuned and we will all see how this works out. lol

Here's my machinist double checking open and closed pressures when we set the spring heights. Honestly I thought we'd see a little better consistency in spring pressures from the Brian Tooley platinum springs. Seat pressure ranged from 135-145 but again the pros told me that is sufficient.

Not a problem! I am no expert with the LS platform but have a lot of experience with old school chevy engines. I am learning about LS engines and consider myself dangerous so please always take my advice with a grain of salt and double check with the experts. LOL
Yes, morel tie bar lifters are salty. Cam Motion is in testing now and hoping to produce a low lash solid roller set up with morel drop in lifters (utilizing the stock trays) for not much more than the price of a good hydraulic set up. I would contact them directly for any pricing options. I am pretty sure if you give Cam Motion a call they will take great care of you with the entire package or any combination of parts. I do know that Cam Motion has the lifters available as a private label and should provide a better value from a pricing standpoint.
