Default Help reading plugs...

Hey I need some help. Ive been reading up on how to read plugs but these seem all over the place. This is on a 100 shot with 20* of timing. I thought it would be plenty safe but the car popped out the exhaust the whole way down the track. Can anyone tell what may be the problem by theses pics? Thanks

#2 has issues as you can see. It almost looks like #2 is an old plug and the others are new. If #2 is new as the others for sure, it is either a bad plug or wire, or you have an issue in that hole. I would put a new set of plugs in it and try again. A bad plug or wire will put unburned fuel in the exhaust which will ignite in the exhaust and there is your pop.

If you change that plug and it comes out with the insulator colored up like that while the others are clean, I would start by replacing that wire and/or doing an ohms check on that wire. If that does not fix it, perhaps a leaky or stuck injector. If that is not it, then maybe a problem with that hole.

That is where I would start.

Thanks man. All plugs were new and installed right before the nitrous passes. Everything you said makes since and ill check that wire and see what I get.

If all that checks out and you get the number 2 plug clean like the others and it still does it, I would monitor the fuel pressure during a nitrous pass.

I was very low on the timing just trying to start safe and data log the runs. I was gonna add a degree until I wasn't able to mph any higher but never made a clean pass with the popping.

Looks really rich.
Add that to the timing being really low and car wont run very good.

Get the fuel right first then start creeping up on the timing.

^ Are you commenting on all plugs or just the #2? I got my AFR commanded to 12.0 at WOT. Seemed like a safe starting point but could be a little rich

Popping out the exhaust can attributed to it being rich and there not being enough heat in the cylinder to burn all of the fuel off. As said above, clean up the fuel side and then adjust timing from there. As you get leaner you will see more heat on the plug.

Was there a lot of idle time on these plugs? Any part throttle driving?(Back to the pits maybe?)

Try and get a good plug reading on #2 next time with a short hit and pull the plug immediately after you shut it down.(Well really all of them if you can) This will help diagnose if that fueling issue is a part throttle issue or a WOT issue. also, next time, cut the threads off the plugs so we can see the fuel ring. You can do this with a drill and a hacksaw. Put the plug in your drill and put it to the saw blade.

Thanks for the tips Brandon. Ill have to figure out a way to check plugs in the return lane. My track stinks. theres no where to pull off and no lighting at the end of the track. I also have nobody to pull me back or anything but ill figure something out.

What are you using? BS3? FAST?

Does it get to 12.0 and hold it there? Where is your 02 sensor? full exhaust?
We ran ours at 12.8 most of the time.

Clean plug make for a happy engine.

You will hurt more parts being too rich than you will too lean.

Well I total had the wrong idea the lol. I thought rich was safer. I use hptuners and have the wideband in the driver's side of my xpipe. Exhaust is lts orx and bullet mufflers dumped at rear axle.
