Default Help me pick a tire for nitrous.

I will be getting some Bogarts here in the future and need a tire to that can handle a 100-150 shot. I would like to have a tire that I could drive on the street with sometimes....by no means a daily driver...and will not be driven in bad weather.

My main concern though is....the tire size. I have a Moser 12 bolt w/4.11's...and don't want to be in 5th. Can I get away with a 26" tire...or will I be trapping too high?

What is probably going to be my MPH in the 1/4...so I could figure out where I need to be with the tire?

I really don't want to rev past 6700-6800 rpm. 6500-6600 would be more to my liking.

What kind of times are you thinking its going to run on a 150 shot?

Are you going to spray it out of the hole?

What gears are in the car? 10 bolt?

No problem Mike. This section has been alittle slow the last few days.
Travis said when he had 430 gears and motor only with 26s he was crossing the traps 6,600 rpms at 124mph.He said go 28s.
Hope that helps.

I was told by Steve from Bogart that the rim needs a minimum of a 11.5" wide rear tire.

With that said....what would you guys recommend?

How long would a ET street last?

what size rim is the back? 15x9.75 right?, you can go with a 10.5 in tire, i did. i have et streets, they are not bad, but i am swapping them out for et drags becuase the et streets do not hook as good as the et drags or et drag radials.

i have a head/camed/nos car w/4.11's. i cross the traps at 5,900 in 4th on motor,i shift at 6,600rpm's.on a 100 shot i cross at 6,300rpm's at 127mph. a 150 shot should put me at 6,600-6,700 in 4th gear on my 26'' tire. you should be able to do it with out a 28'' tire. i run the m&h racemaster 26x11.5x16 i spray out of the hole at 6,500rpm launch with no spin at all. www.intercotire.com once i used the m&h tire i never went back to m/t's.

I have only been around 3 cars with the MT drag radial and all 3 hooked better with the DR than ET streets.

I use a 27" Hoosier QTP 11.5" wide. The hook great at 12psi. I have pulled 1.4 60's on these tires. No cutting to fit them, and I also have a moser 12 bolt. I have about 2,500 miles on them now and they have maybe another 1k to go. I drive on them all the time. Very stable and streetable tires.

I've been there and done that. I run 27 inch ET streets. You will be fine with them even with a stock rev limmiter. With the tire growth. At 6300 you will be good for a about 127-128mph.

Ive had your same problem with 26" tall tire.I went up to 28".and lowered my 60' from 1.59 to 1.51.and then I had no problem w/ running out of gear or hitting the rev limiter at the end of the track.

now for how long the m/t et street lasts.w/ that soft compound they only go around 5000 miles. for me that was 2 season driving 20 mile each way with at least 5 passes each time at the track. And the drag radials due hook up better than the et's , it was in some magazine I read. not only that they where better by at least 1 tenth in the 60' and have a side wall so when you leave the track your *** end wont be wondering around going home on those whinny roads.

Isn't an ET Street...a ET drag..that is DOT legal. Since when does a drag radial hook better than a cheater slick?

Not saying it doesn't...It just seems odd.

Why are there some classes in drag racing that don't allow any bias ply tires. You must run street radials....because they do not perform as well right????

well i have had experience with all three MT, as well as M&H. the et streets and et drag radials being on my car, and the et drags on a close friend's. it's kinda hard to tell you the difference between the et street and drag radial without showing you in person, other than the obvious, but the drag radial, although still a drag radial, is made of a much softer, stickier compound that hooks a lot better than the et streets. when i had about 30psi in the drag radials for cruising around, they were still really soft to the touch, whereas the et streets were almost hard. the drag radials like someone mentioned above provide better 60ft and quarter mile times, and the et drags even further. the difference between the et drags and et streets are that the et drags are a full on slick that hooks a hell of a lot better, but you being an m6, you might even blow your rear end. if you want something in between the et drags and the drag radials, you could check out the M&H cheater slicks. they have a really good hooking, soft compound that is better than the et streets as well. so my recommendation to you is this: out of the four i talked about, all of them are great hooking tires except for the et streets. there are a lot of guys on this board that have had good luck with et streets, but most haven't. just pick the right tire/compound for your setup. i recommend the 275/60/15 et drag radial or 28x10.5x15 et drag. hope this helps
