Default Valve stem

When I removed the Shrader valve I just used a pair of pliars. I yanked out the valve stem and about an inch or so of metal. Is this good? Or do I need to do something else. I read that a lot of people have just used pliars..

thanks,
Justin

You should have used a schrader valve (bicycle tire stem) remover. Although Sat. night it didnt work for me. It screws in, hopefully you got all of it out.

Why? You can buy the proper tool at any auto parts store for under $2.00.

lol that is funny must of been a pain to get regular pliers to grab it in the first place . you probally still have the threads in there still if you just tore the insides of it out.

actually.. it was really easy to get the pliers in there. I had read from a few people that they used pliers and it worked real well for them.. what do I do if the threads are still in there? Is it to late to use a valve stem removal tool??

I assume you are talking about the schrader valve in the fuel rail. If you just pulled it out I think you will have small slivers of threads etc. still in there. If you ever try to put the schrader valve back in it may leak.

If particles get in your solenoid or jets you may have big trouble. You may want to install a fuel filter to be safe.

The only thing I can think of is get a light and look in there as best you can and if you see anything try to fish it out with out pushing it farther in. Then I would clamp a hose over the end and put the other end in a bucket. Have a helper turn the key on and hopefully it will flush any loose pieces out. Be very careful about any kind of spark so you don't burn yourself up.

Good luck and like they said get the right tool next time.

Well, I will share my secret success story. I didnt use pliers, I actually tried a valve tool, and the ******* thing broke the lands off the valve. So, I managed to get the valve out, after several minutes in a furious attempt to get it done to make qualifications Sat night. Valve finally let go, then I picked up my T-10 or 15 Long blade Torx Bit Driver and jammed, yes hammering with my palm, it finally bit into the inside diameter of the valves threaded ring. A couple twists and it came out. Then I had to blow the rails out, using fuel pressure, be very careful doing this. After that hooked everything up, and good to go, except the fricken fuel solenoid fails to let fuel pass, no frantic mad dash work here, probe it, it gets the right amount of current, but no work. So, I packed up and called it a night. Pissed but hey, got the damn valve out that some gorilla installed!
