Since the war is over the Progressive controller this week then why dont you fix the reason you need one. The argument would be over.
I have never run a controller on any of my or customer cars. I believe in getting the car to work with the maximum hit.
If you cant plant 800hp on motor and another 350hp on the bottle on a stock style suspension and a true 10.5 tire then you have a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

case in point. `1996 LT1 Firebird completely stock except for longtube headers. The car had a fogger(brand doesnt matter) with the proper suspension setup ran 10.86 with a 1.40 60ft at the track. The car was packing the wheels leaving on a BFG drag radial. Now on the street I dont have a time slip but the car left with the tires the same height in the air and dissapointed alot of people with their money on the other guy.

Damn Ben I was talking about these PUNK LS1 cars.
OK here you go. How about a 565BBC 1050hp on motor with a 350 shot on drag radials. Dragging the bumper past the 330 mark????????????????
Well...some of us (me) would love to send you our cars and get the suspension dailed in to be perfect but that really isn't in our budget...
I want to run a progressive becuase it is extremely cost effective when compared to all the suspension stuff i would need to get out harder. Not to say I won't get to that point...but for now, controlling the hit is easier/cheaper then getting the suspension dailed in...

And a lot of people want the progressive controllers to make their trans/axles live for a little while. Also, the saftey features are nice too. And as already said... hook that car on a normal street!

I'm not sure where you guys race, but up here in NH, the track isn't always there. Sure, somedays you can hook, but others when its 35 deg outside and the track has a nice layer of dew, theres just no traction availibe.
Now I like the progressive timing retard trick myself. I don't do it on my car, but everyone up here who is seems real happy with it when the track is slick.

A big reason why I wanted and got one is to try to help from that instant 100 extra hp beating on my tranny as bad,it comes in slower and smoother but if I had a nice built tranny then that should not be a concern but I do not!

Sorry I see the point. Lets make more power than we can use and then LIMIT it because I cant put the power down to the ground. It makes total sense to me.
Or what about those guys that dont want to stress the motor at lower rpms with a huge shot but want it once the rpms get up there.....not suspension related but rather motor related
No no no...I like the controller with the rpm based map so I can extract as much HP as possible within certain design limits. Design limits like...stock bottom ends, pump gas, making the street motor live as long as possible with high HP, etc.
Its actually kind of funny...I have yet to install and use a progressive for traction purposes...lol. I havent made that much HP yet. Its always been about making engine parts live.

Well, I don't need one, but am going to use one on my thrid stage. I want to see how much I can make a stock ls6 longblock injest without blowing. If it does, oh well, then we'll move on to a motor that can handle a all in one torque monster off the line hit. Remember most of us are street/strip guys. Now with that said I have never used a progressive controller, but rather multi stage, which I think still in most cases is superior.

I don't run a controller either, BUT... traction isn't my problem. Even with a baby 150 shot you can put it on the rear bumper. See my signature. That was done on a stock bottom ended SS. After destroying the stock engine, I put in a 408. With the same 150 shot, I can't even get it out of the hole without it try to put in on the rear again. It hits so hard that the wheely bars lift the rear tires. Brian, want to make a trip to South Dakota to tune a suspension? The SS will be bigger and better this year - still no controller - yet.
I agree with Brian on a full hit right out of the hole. It is just a matter of dialing in the suspension to work with the hit - by the way trans-brake are a great way to "blast" out of the hole. We'll see what a 250 shot does with the re-vamped 408 this year.
