Default pinks/nos

So I was watching pinks this week. A fox body vs. a camaro. Well the fox body guy was heating up his nos bottle with a torch. Um isnt that just wrong? Can anyone explain this? I have heard of guys doing it before. But that was the first time i had ever seen it.

I used to do it back in the day with my friends. It works, but I highly advise against it. Basically, it was the cheapest way for us to heat up our bottles. That, and boiling some water in a large pan, then putting it in a bucket and dropping the nitrous bottle in the bucket. Hehe, yea we knew it was wrong, but I know I'm not the only one who's ever done it...

Definitely get yourself a bottle heater though, and do it the right way.

It's not exactly smart to torch bottles. Most tracks will kick you out now if they see you doing this.

Since when did the "old fashioned" electrical bottle heaters go out of style?

Did someone say "Redneck"?

last i heard it affects the structure of the metal since you basicly have a direct flame straight on the bottle

Damn... if there was a chance I was going to lose my car I'd use an 8.00 torch and not install a 150 heater in the car.

Now every other condition I would rather have a heater

Its definetly not safe if the blow off is pointed towards you or anyone else. The easiest way to heat it is to let your car run and crank the heat on the floor and cover the bottle partially with a mat to trap the heat in. Even still you want a gauge to check on the PSI.

we did what Tony recommended and had that bottle pressure up around 1300 in about 3 minutes in the back of my Rainier, hahaha. A little too much, but that thing was HOT!!

I would hope they would at least use a rose tip torch if they where to heat the bottle up like that. BTW. who won? the camaro or the fox body?

I'm thinking about sending them an email to PINKS and ask them not to show people doing this anymore. They've done it a few times and everytime I sort of cring thinking some ricer with a 50 shot is gonna try this and leave the flame on one spot and get owned by the bottle exploding on his ***. Side note: I hate the general argument that people are influenced by tv to perform acts of violence, stupid stuff and things like that, but I could see some people would see this as a safe option to heat their bottle. I heard a few people at school talking about how they thought this was a good idea after seeing guys on the show torch their bottles until I enlightened them about the dangers. I'm not trying to be a safety **** or anything like that just don't want to hear about someone getting wasted by a nitrous bottle and then have the government go apeshit on nitrous laws. Thoughts?

Ehh...somebody blowing their arm off makes for good TV. Kinda like when that guy on Discovery was standing in the water with bull sharks and one of them ripped his calve off.

If your bottles show signs of torching most smart refill guys probrably won't touch them anyway.

Just out of curiousity, can anyone document a nitrous bottle blowing up because it was heated by a torch? I've been going to dragstrips since way before most of you were born and I've never heard of it happening. And let's face it, it's a common practice.
