Nitrous & compression ??
Nitrous & compression ?? Dont know much about nitrous and was wondering what do you want with nitrous, high or low compression...I know it is possible to run on both but can you run a higher shot with lower compression to make more power?

High or low compression ratios can work quite suitably with nitrous oxide provided the proper balance of nitrous and fuel enrichment is maintained. Nitrous kits are used in applications from relatively low compression stock type motors to Pro-Modifieds, which often exceed 15 to 1.
Generally, the higher the compression ratio, the more ignition retard, as well as higher octane fuel, is required to maintain a safe level of operation....

fletchls1, nitrous doesnt raise your compression. Nitrous, like any other forced induction, raises cylinder pressure. Nitrous likes higher compression, and yes you have to maintain a happy AFR, and keep cylinder pressure in-line with your internal components. You cant take a stock bottom and run a 400shot thru it just cause your running 9:1 AFR. Advance being taken out helps control the rate of the burn, and amount of cylinder pressure. Adding octane also slows the burn down. Normally running race gas the timing can be left more "aggressive." Rather than shooting a 200shot with 10* of timing and pure C16, which would probably run about as good stock timing and 93 pump on a 100shot, find the right timing and octane adder and limit the entire combo to component item strength.

the reason nitrous doesnt care about care about compression is because you never have more than one atmosphere in the cylinder. But nitrous can make more power with this one atmosphere due to its higher % of oxygen (air is about 20% o2, and n20 is 33% o2.)

Old thread but I searched and found the question I had.
I built my motor for a big turbo in mind 408ci with Wesco 25CC turbo duty pistons. I think my compression is 8.5:1
With that said I dont have the funds now for the big turbo kit but I still want to have fun with the car. Can I run a 200-300 shot and be fine at this compression? I want to run it with E85. I have bigstuff3 on the car already. Once finds are saved I will take the nitrous stuff off and build the turbo kit.

you can invest in a simple plate or dual nozzle kit to get what you are looking for. Your motor will take the shot fine and will make half decent power. If you built a nitrous specific motor with higher compression, then you would be making mad power. but if your just looking for a fix to get you by, then i think this would be a good route to take.
