its common for alot of people, heat is the only way to get the bottle to the pressure you need it at, they sell bottle heaters and they work great, dynotune has a nice piece...id reccomend it, set it once and all you have to do is turn it on and let it run for about 15 minutes

Using a torch is uncontrolled heat source. With the DynoTune heater, it shuts off at a desired pressure. Too much pressure will make the nitrous soleniod stick open and most of knows what happen next. I would also get a purge kit since in the summer heat the bottle pressure can high as well and you need to bleed that pressure back down to safe levels.

if you have a pressure gauge, go for it. I've used it before and as long as you don't keep it in one spot and keep moving it, it usually works great. Hot water (like in a bathtub, sink or jacuzzi to name a few I've used) works great too.

What one way are you thinking the gas has of escaping? Because it should have a rupture disk, shouldn't it?

i think all of the horror stories are from back in the day. the older 80's and 90's bottles didn't come with burst disks. i prefer a hot box. and then a 12volt heater in the lanes to maintain pressure but the torch works fine. have used it and know a ton of people who do from 12.sec rides to 7.0 1/4 mile 10.5 cars. hell in a pinch one time i used my cutting torch turned down to heat a bottle.

You sure? Burst disks have been the standard on compressed gases for decades. I forget the name of the connection type. ****/DISS/***.

Sometimes it's the quickest way to get into the lanes and get the win.

most tracks will boot you if they catch you using a torch. Using a torch is just plain stupid

Bottles have always had safeties. The problem comes from the fact that the bottles cannot be exposed to heat of over 350 degrees. And if they have been they need to be destroyed. Exposure to high heat can weaken the bottle to the point that a section of the bottle would have a lower rupture point than the burst disc.

i had some people on here tell me im risking my life for using a small map gas torch to heat it.

i have never, in my life, heard of anyone killing themself using a torch. just dont hold it in one spot because i guess that could weaken the bottle.

just make sure you have a gauge to monitor and if you heat it up to much, just purge it off.

Also nitrous isnt flammable but it IS an oxidizer. So any flame it is exposed to will get quite a bit larger. Thats not the real problem with using a torch however. The REAL PROBLEM is by heating the bottle directly with a flame you are annealing the alum of the bottle itself. This WEAKENS the bottle and makes it more prone to a high pressure explosion. Odds of it biting you vary with how many times you heat the bottle this way, but one explosion is all it takes and your gone. So why chance it?

It seems to me that torching the bottle is probably not going to heat the metal evenly which is where your problem is going to occur.

it can cause stresses on the bottle
