It may be a case of just normal wear/tear of springs getting weak or the valve guides having some slop.
I'd look over things to check for signs of problems starting with the sparkplugs.

Are you running an aftermarket oiled filter like a K & N?

So, it may be a combo of two things, lean from the get go, then additional leaness from a dirty MAF. Also, lifting can create a nasty lean spike, as I have logged this mucho, don't lift so much. The nozzles work better, and give a safer/correct a/f if mounted in the neck. Clean the maf wires, then get a wb reading.
Here's what may have happened. Because a severe lean condition, detonation began. Then this created a hot spot. The hot spot will remain hot even after clyinder is finished firing. Then, because of reversion, you have a certain amount of gas vapour in the intake. So now you have an ignition source at the wrong time, like the next time the clyinder with hot spot opens the valve on the intake stroke it has a source to ignite residule gases in the intake. Then the resulting back fire.
You really need to do some diagnostics ie: logging/tuning for a/f, kr and inject DC. Check your plugs for missing electrodes, this can be the hot spot, amongst other places.

thats true, but he has been running this kit for years with no problems so im not blaming it on the nitrous. Im actually not blaiming it on anything so chill out. Just wondering WHY so he can fix the problem.
