Default No Purge, Hard on Solenoids?

Hi all,

Im not a hardcore track racer so i thought i really didn't think i needed a purge since a few tenths of a second on the frist pass isnt really a big deal to me.

Now im thinking when im done using my nitrous isn't that pressure still built up in the lines. Can this be hard on the solenoids?

Heres what i thought... Could i turn on the system with the nitrous bottle closed for maybe 1-2 seconds just to clear my nitrous lines (wet kit) or would this be bad since it would be dumping fuel into the intake (only 1-2 seconds should clear line tho)? I bought a dynotune heater, opener and digital gauge hoping i wouln't have to go in the trunk, so i dont want to crack the bottle line every time.

Let me know on your thoughts if you think its hard on the solenoids from the nitrous pressure when your done using the nitrous

Thanks

I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but I have heard several people who don't have purge systems just "purge" when they do their burnout. If I had to guess I'd say that they just arm and fire their system at some point during the burnout.

Most of the wet kits tend to have a split second lean spike on activation. So not having a purge isn't going to cause any problems. Nitrous moving at 1000psi gets there pretty fast. I run wet kits on my T/A and mustang w/out a purge and never notice any problems. I crack the line at the bottle at the end of the night at the track to releive the pressure.

this is not reccomended....it is a nitrous backfire waiting to happen

thanks for the replys but does anyone know if it would be hard on the noids? i would buy a purge but it got my siwtchs allready mounted and would be a big hassle to remove them and add in a purge

all you would do is crack open the feed line to remove the pressure when you are done....it is not a good idea to leave the feed line pressureized

You can shorten your fuel line coming from your noid to make up for that lean spike. I would see about shortening it a couple of inches and see how it looks on the dyno . I did both shorten and fatened up my fuel in certain rpms to fix this problem.

I had my bottle mounted in the t-top storage in my car and it took probably 5 seconds before nitrous would come out. I know the fuel sprayed right away, so I say a purge is needed.

Ive got the fuel line about 12" shorter on both my cars wet kits, does get rid of the lean spike as you said.

I don't do it during a burnout, but after my burnout, I put her in neutral, rev to 3000 rpm and give it a quick blip to wot, usually do that 2x's and she's good to go, regular purge has always given me a hesitation before the spray hits, motor purging always gives me an instant hit! So now I don't even have the purge on my car anymore, never put it back on with the new kit, since I really never used it anyways.

Not saying that it can't be done....but when "blipping" the throttle, the car sees WOT then instantly goes back to closed throttle. By doing that you are cutting off the velocity needed to pull the mixture into the cylinders. This could cause a backfire when the mixture drops into the intake.
