Default Is meth injection considered a power adder

Just like the title says. Is meth injection a power adder.

Please explain why you think it is or isn't.

The question is being asked due to new rules in the EFI class at our local track.

one of the new rules is only one power adder.

this is still under review.

This is posted in the FI section also.

Not neccessarily. it allows you to add more hp for the most part. Id think you could get away with water injection but most local tracks can't test your water so that might not work either. I asked the same question for the LSX race.

Meth is not a power adder in a technical sense because it does not actually add power. The track can do whatever they want though, they own it.

Is race fuel considered a power adder? They both control detonation, correct?

I'm sure someone could make the argument that since methanol burns it is a power adder. It may not be right, but thats the name of the game. Air and fuel and spark are the only ways you can make power. So if it doesn't add one of those....is it a power adder...

I've only heard cobra guys say it's a power adder when they needed an excuse not to run an SS that might beat them. It's a ricer excuse and hopefully your track will see it that way.

This is a tricky question!
In general, If you are running a stock or low compression N/A motor on a 50 F day you will lose power.

If you have 10:1, turbocharged motor with 20 psig of boost you have to have it or you will have a grenade on your hands.

I don't consider alcohol a power adder, it just allows you to build a combination that will live with more cylinder pressure.

Methanol, does a body (motor) good!.

It is NOT a power adder. (IMO) It doesn't add any oxygen (or any other explosive compound) or fuel which is something a power adder does. The use may need to be regulated but not as a power adder. It is a burn control agent. I would think it should fall under the rules catagory where fuel is regulated by rules. My opinion only.

NMCA doesn't allow it in their late model efi class, of course, they don't allow race fuel in the class either. Pump or E85 only.

Actually, the alcohols do have an Oxygen element. Methanol, CH3OH compared to gasoline, C8H15. And E85 which is 15% C8H15 + 85% C2H5OH.

Kind of interesting that NMCA allows E85.

an engine cant run only on a power adder, can an engine run on a turbo only...NO, supercharger only...NO, hell an engine cant even run on nitrous only! Methanol is a fuel. your engine could run off meth only if u wanted.

no it is NOT a POWER ADDER. PERIOD. it will actually make you lose horsepower until you add more timing or boost.
