Who else has had a nitrous backfire?
Who else has had a nitrous backfire? If so what did it break?
I had a nice 4' flame shoot out of the hood Fri. nite at the track.
I guess this intake doesnt like the wet shot up front.
This new set up has me
Looks like it didnt hurt anything besides the lid, MAF and bent the top of the intake a little.
Should have it back together tonite and on the dyno tomorrow for the DRY speed density set up.
We are going to try leaving on the Direct port and bring the dry shot in for the 2nd stage. (good thing I got the limiters on)

Yea, on the dry. I haven't had any backfires, but I only run dry these days. I do have some great wet intake explosion pics. Seriously, glad you didn't hurt anything major.

The Dry shot is already back on the car.
We will have it on the dyno tomorrow and at the track Friday.

i know a guy that had a couple last year on an older car. never blew much, just big flames.
i also know a guy that lost his car last week from a stuck noid then back fire. burnt the hole thing.
i also saw an ls1 in florida blow a plastic intake apart as well as the maf and lid. he left the hole at wot, car bogged when it did it kept dumping, then boom.

Most of the ones I've seen and heard about were off the line.
Mine happened at 7,000 rpms (top of 2nd gear) and the car was pulling clean to that point. It popped at about 550'-600' and it still went 6.2 @ 115 with a lazy 1.45 60' time.
We are pretty sure it was the single wet nozzle up front that caused it.
I'm going to make a pass on the direct port only to make sure thats working right.
Then bring the DRY 2nd stage in

I thought all intake backfires with wet kits were when spraying off the line and car bogs. How does a backfire occurr when you're already moving down the track?? Assuming you dont hit the rev limiter I mean. I'm very curious about this. I only activate the nitrous once im in second, thought I was safe!

You should really have burst panels installed on the intake manifold. cheaper to replace a $40 disk than buy a new manifold when it explodes.
My backfire happened due to old plugs. It did the common "bog" and then boom. The intake was still in tact but the MAF and airbox were done.
This was a NX wet kit on my old 100% stock Foxbody btw.

They usually don't react fast enough for a true back fire, there have been a few guys running them that still poped the intake.

I had like 6 different backfires in one night with my V6 camaro. Kept blowing the air lid off, all the sensors out of the air intake tubing, the filter would be somewhere different, and I was shooting flames out the back of my car.
when I backfired on a lift (trying to blow the car up) I shot a fireball out the intake but everything still worked perfectly except the maf.

I am sure glad it was dry hit, and prob some sort of lean backfire, not really sure exactly what happened, but my big $$ motor seems fine.Robert
