spraying 4.11's....change tire or change gear?
right now the 9 inch is torn apart and I'm thinking about stepping down my gearing numerically lower to either a 3.89 or even a 3.73 from 4.11's now.
I'm not spraying as of yet but plan to down the road, and was wondering whats a better deal, to either go from the 26" slick to the 28 to counter the gearing or just swap gearing all together.
I won't be spraying for quite a while as I'm trying to get the car as fast as possible n/a and THEN spray...
will 4.11's just be to much gear for a 100-150 shot of gas?
Like i said i have NO problem w/ stepping up to a 28" tall tire down the road if thats a better option.
edit:
6 speed t-56
6800 rpm limiter.

I run 3.73's and shoot 100 right now..
re-tuned this year for 150, have not hit it on the 150 yet.
I love my gears.. I think 4.11's are a bit too much... 3.73 is ******* perfect...
get the gears. IMO

If you're an auto 3.73 with 27'' tire or 3.23/3.42 with 26''. I was running 4.11 last year with a 28'' and still had to shift into OD. I have since gone back to 3.23 gears and 26'' tires.

Personally, im a fan of getting the most out of it on the motor, then just adding spray. So I would keep the gears, and if possible, get a set of 28 inch tires for when you spray. If you dont want to do that, then there is the option of shifting into 5th gear, but that one is kind of uneasy for me. I will also be running into the same problem when I spray. 28's will just kill the car on motor. Guess you cant have your cake and eat it to eh?

thats what my goal is too...best on motor than add a little giggle gas I guess I'll just run the 28" tire when I spray and see where it gets me... motor passes like you said would suck.

i run 4.10's with a 28 inch tire and can only go 130 with a 7k rev limiter because of converter slippage on the jug....
im going to 3.90's and staying with the 28's and putting in the 150 shot and it should do me good!

well my gears are also thrashed...**** man this is turning $$$$ quick.
going to go w/ 3.70's that + spray will move out and be decent for the street.
btw 3.70's in a 9 inch is your guys 3.73's.

IMo, I'd leave the 4.10's in for your setup. realisticially, you probably won't see more then 130 mph, which is still moving. A 28 inch bias tire grows to about 29 to 29.5 inches tall, so figure your calculations off that height.
Personally I ran 139 with 4.10's and a 28 inch tire going thru the traps at about 7100, but I'm running a TH400 and it calculated to a 9% slippage at the big end, so subtract 9% of that rpm if it was locked up like a stick car will be (well should be if the cluch holds LOL)
I am however making the switch to 3.73's to try to get the rpm below 7000 @ 140 mph. I know I could tighten the converter, but it will hurt the 1/8th mile times I suspect... plus the 3.73 should give the car a bit more top end charge. At least that's my hopes... but I'm in a slightly different situation making more power n/a then you probably will with a 100 shot.

the 3.70's would benefit me on the highway and not to say im going to but a roll race here and there would help w/ the traction and nitrous...
damn man im not sure what I want to do...4.11's would benefit me on the motor far more than 3.70's would, and thats where I will be the most...so 4.11's? decisions decisions.
