Nitrous tune?
Nitrous tune? I've been reading on some of the other ls1 boards and guys are saying that anything 100hp and under the stock tune is fine. just switch to colder plugs. This seems wrong to me just thought I'd roll it by you guys and see what you think? I thought when using nitrous you were always supposed to pull timing.
yes thats correct the stock tune is going to be conservative of course. i wouldnt go over a 100 shot more so because of the stock fuel pump than the tune. when you are running a all out motor tune 27-28 deg timing is when you need to pull timing. id put some tr6's in and do a 100 shot without any worries.

I would get a tune no matter what. My tuner initially set mine up with a 75 shot and it was good @ around 12.4-12.6, then on the 100 shot it went up to around 13.2 A/F. A tune is a good safety precaution.
I was always under the assumption that timing should always be taken out of a car running spray. I'm only going to be running 75-100hp on my 00 ss. I guess i don't have to take timing out. That really surprises me.

Is there a switch out there that could be wired up that would only pull timing when the system is armed? How much do these cost and where can they be bought? Also do they install clean or is there a bunch of wires running around in that already over crowded engine area?

You can set it up on an arming switch, so that the switch will active a RPM switch which will pull timing from whatever rpm you are spraying. my tuner told me that pulling timing was no issue for him and would do it for free. I have already paid for a full dyno tune though.

Are you running a wet or dry system? Mine is a wet system and the most i'm going to run is 100hp AT most. I might only stick to the 75hp shot.
keep saying that.... i can almost bet once you hit the n2o you will be hooked and want more! But what they are saying, if you have never had your car tuned you should be around 25* timing. If your car has been tuned most likely you will be in the 27-29 range, that is when even on the small shot you would want to pull a couple degrees out. i'm on a 100 shot right now @ 25* timing.
You can run STOCK timing on nitrous. I would definately run some race gas if you're planning on stepping up to a bigger shot. Where people get in trouble is when their N/A tune is on the ragged edge with ~30 degrees of timing.
What year car do you have? depending on what year you may not have to pull timing. IMHO I like to tune for everything I put on my car but that's me. I would try to get someone near your area to scan it or tune it for you but if not you could at least read the plugs. Good luck.

Well, i have an 01 Z28 A4 with a Hypertech tunner and a 125 wet shot (Cold Fusion) with stock AC Delco plugs, stock timming (or what ever Hypertech tunes it to in the performance setting) and 92 octane fuel. It runs great. still on the 1st bottle though...
I have a 2000 Camaro ss. I thought pulling timing and colder plugs was a standard thing. I have an old vette I built and run a 383 with a 100hp nitrous. I pull 4 degrees timing and run colder plugs for that, but that isn't an ls1. I was really surprised to hear guys running 100 shots and still going on stock tunes with just colder plugs. Seems like a motor waiting to go to me. I think i'm going to buy a timing switch. Speaking of which anybody had experience with this one from nitrousoutlet Full-05LS1TT. Seems like this has everything I want. But only want it when nitrous system is armed. I don't want timing pulled for everyday driving.
I hooked my predator up and ran the stock tune. At WOT it did 23-25 degrees timing. Is this ok for the 100 shot. Personally I think it will be fine at that timing with colder plugs and 92 octane fuel.
