Default NGK TR7 & TR8's (Projected or NON Projected)?
I just got my TR7 (3526 BP7EFS) plugs and TR8 (7317 R5724-8) plugs and they are projected tips just like my tr6. I heard someone say they are non projected. Explain? Are these fine for big shots? 175+

I called ngk and he recommended a non resistor B8EFS-1049 plug. This is a non projected tip plug. He hasnt heard of much probelms with this non resisitor plug from our type of cars. What do you guys do for 200-250 shot?
I am leary of using a projected tip tr8.

I always thought the 7's and up were non projected tips.

TTT, someone knows the answer or can help out.

I use NGK R5671A-7 for a 200 shot and 116 in standalone

I have melted TR8's that were projected tip on a big shot. Some guys on here say that they don't have any trouble with them on big shots but I had nothing but trouble. I changed to a non projected tip plug and haven't had any trouble since.

I can tell you that the tip is shorter on the BP7EFS plugs. When I placed them in my car I noticed they were about an 1/8 of an inch short compared to a TR6.

Ill order the # R5671A-8 stock # 4554 and give them a try.
You guys arent having any issues with the non resistor types?

i dono what you are talkin about but i use the tr6 for a 100 shot in my stock internal engine

One thing I notice about that plug (at least according to ngk.com) is that it has a gasket seat. A LSx plug should be a tapered seat.

I have no idea how the whole TR7 thing started but it seems to have become slang for any NGK heat range 7. The problem with the BP7EFS is that it is broken down as follows:

B - 14mm thread diameter
P - Projected Insulator Type
7- Heat Range
EF - Tapered Seat .708" reach
S - Standard 2.5mm D Electrode

The P makes it a projected tip. Try BR7EF.

Autolite calls it the "Power Tip", which is indeed a projected tip.
