500whp is a little stretch on a N/A LS1. Especially with those heads. Those 5.3's will be holding you back of some decent power. I would say with the 5.3 heads and a healthy cam & a FAST intake, you'd be lucky to be in the 460ishrwh range.

Agreed with Todd. Steven has the TSP 5.3 heads and a MS3 cam and he out down 440whp.. If he put a fast combo on I would say he would be around 460 as well.

What would be a good combo for 500hp I like the 5.3 heads because I already have the core and they are supposed to be great bang for buck heads.

Some AFR heads and that would be pushing closer to 500... Throw a 100 shot on and your there.. With those 5.3 would work great with N2o

And then I would start looking into some forged rods when starting to get that high.

AFR's....but even with those I doubt you will surpass 470-480. What cam are you looking to put in?

Personally, I would ditch the 5.3's and go with some better heads.

Look at Mike's combo. He was right at 500 hp and was not stock cubic inch either.

Rock - If you are looking for that power, then I would suggest a new rearend to make the most of that power.

Are those 5.3 heads untouched or already have work done to them? How much are you into them for?

Untouched, I got two core 5.3's for 150 bucks a piece a couple of years ago. And a special thanks to Salvage for hooking me up with some new T-Tops. Getting that taken care of along with the electrical problem (ignition switch) and everything is good

You can build a stock short block ls1 such as i had that was on par with 408's with decent heads and a good sized cam.

Yeah, I'd agree that 500rwhp from a stock cube LS1 is not a realistic goal. Not saying you can't do it, but the few people that have done it usually own a dyno or have unlimited access to one, spend all of their free time dialing-in the combo, usually swap cams mulitiple times and have a killer set of heads. Unless the stars in the sky align perfectly for you, I'd say it's not gonna happen haha.... I know someone local that could help you out with that Stage 2 T56 build.... BTW, welcome to NW section.

My cylinder head combo wouldn't work on a stock LS1. Valve sizing is too large on the LS3/L92 heads for the stock bore size on an LS1. He could jump to an iron 6.0 or aluminum LS2 6.0 block and make pretty close to 500rwhp all day long with the right LS3 heads/intake/cam combo.

Just do a 383 out of it and heads/cam/intake and you're there.

if i could go back and do it all over again, it would be a forged, stock cube LQ9, with L92s, a mild valvetrain, stock ls3 intake with a supercharger.

probably would have ended up being close to the same as a motor with a stroker crank, CNC'd heads and a FAST 102/100

Yeah I agree, a stock cube lq9 is the way to go, the 4" stroke is nice but then you have a short piston skirt and the wrist pin goes in to the ring land. And the ls3 top end is a great route for power and being affordable.
