Hey guys, I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about this. I have been building cars here in western SD for 7 years, mostly hot rods and muscle cars. Some with lsx swaps. I have a serious passion for these motors and am considering starting a full service shop,(dyno, tuning, engine swaps, etc.),so what do you think, am I crazy for wanting to do this?

In Deadwood SD i wouldn't think you would make it with Rapid so close....
you would have to have a great Reputation and be pretty well known...
I have considered this myself in my area except not exclusive to LSX...
Start out small and see how things go, dont jump into the deep end until you figure out how good you can swim!

I agree that a LSX only shop would be a tough one to make work in the beginning, but the dyno would be for anything and I do alot of custom fab and that would be on anything as well. That should help a little.
The dyno shop that was in Rapid City closed and I belive that Rapid Diesel Service bought the dyno. I am not sure if they do much with the dyno or not.
I think the shop would need to be in Rapid City or at least closer then Deadwood.

Thanks, it will definetly happen but still working a lot of details out. I am finishing a twin supercharged 63 impala for a guy right now so that's taking most of my time. I will keep you posted.

rapid has a couple of dynos. rapid diesel has a mustang dyno, but good luck getting your car on it. and then western dakota tech has one, not sure what brand, but ive heard that its ment for AWD cars.
as for opening a "speed" shop, good luck. theres already 2 in rapid and they both struggle selling parts to the carb boys and circle track racers. the only good of them is they fill nitrous bottles. but now that im so far away im going to have to start filling my own if i ever get the money to do so.
