super easy. right tools are the key. first one i did was a biotch. use the correct balancer puller/installer and a good valve spring tool such as the comp cam 5462 valve spring compressor. you will need air to pressurize the cylinders while changing the springs. impact makes crank bolt removal a breeze also. anyway...have fun.
P.S. what cam you putting in?

These are all things I thought about when I was a lot younger and just learning about engines/cars etc..

I went with the Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam, the specs are
207/220 573/.580 w 1.7 rocker 118.5 CL. The reason I went with this cam is that I Have a magnacharger sitting in my garage that I plan on installing after I get the cam in.
What you're asking is a relative question. How familiar are you with working on cars? What is your comfort level for taking complicated things apart and putting them back together again? Do you have a budget set aside in case things don't go as planned?

As far as the lifters,I used a wooden dolrod from home improvement store I think it was 5/16, cut to 22 in's long. I did a search on hear to get the correct info, some people talk $hit about it. But it worked well for me with no problems. As far as the valve tool I bought a 8 dollar one from autozone amd moded it like the one shown on ls1howto.com it worked well, took awhile to do each spring but I saved the cash on the tool. hope this helps, the job itself is not that hard.
