Default 02SSlayer bad news

Well, we pulled the cam to find one lobe destroyed. Cam bearings worn to the copper all the way around.
The lifters looked.....ok. There was no obvious dead ones though, so I'd have to say the cam was soft.

We advised him to go through the shortblock before bolting on all his new fancy parts. Better safe than sorry.

Been talking to tony about the other block, there is questions about the pistons. I guess they are kinda abnormal. Anyway, I found a Callie's comps tar 24x crank for 250 + shipping that Ian gonna pick up. I am also gonna start tearing apart the motor to see if there are any problems with the motor. Going this route won't cost too much more, I'm gonna put new rings in and ill have the proper flycuts installed.

So to recap, this engine had a broken valvespring, wiped lobe and bad cam bearings? Was the wiped lobe the same one that had the broken spring?

Where in the hell did you score a stroker crank for 250.00? I need you to start buying my parts from now on lol...

Sorry to hear about your luck Joe....

Yes on all 3 broken items. It's not a stroker crank. I have an l92 short block, I found a stock ci crank in the classifieds. Forged tho so that's cool. It's ok Miley, my build just got way better

On the LS1 in the car, The wiped lobe was not the one that also had a broken valve spring.

The front cam bearing is worn to copper all the way around. We couldn't see the rest.

The L92 had flycuts in the pistons. I know nothing about the L92....was that stock?

So Joe,

Which engine are you going to use? Your post is a bit confusing.

ron,

I believe the L92 comes with valve reliefs where the LS3 does not. Just small differences that GM does. The LS3 and L92 heads are pretty much the same as well, but the LS3 uses a hollow stem valve for light weight/higher rpms.

All these good little tidbits.
Joe, just go ahead and bring that L92 short block down here. It will make too much power for your Camaro......

Not really , I got the hood off ready to pull the motor. Been planning waiting on parts. Went ahead with new valve relief pistons 230cc heads larger cam. Need to order bearings then I can get the shortblock built

Build update
Since I have come this far I might as well just go a little further. I'm adding a 4" crank to the mix so my motor will now be a 416ci
