Whats highest octane I can run in my car without changing anything. I have prc 5.3 heads a tr2224 cam and supporting mods. Race gas is available a half a mile away from me, I think at 114 octane or 115 or something like that. Can I run it? Should I mix it with the super that I run now or just run it straight? Going to mix it up with a pack of skittles tommorow on a cruise to the beach and back.

You should always run the lowest octane that your car will run acceptably on. You can run a little extra for insurance, but too much will, in fact, hinder performance.

[QUOTE=KrautBurner]the 115 oct stuff is leadded,
if you still have cats and/or O2 sensors,
you should not run leadded fuel,
it will kill the cats, and kill your o2 sensors,
True, I have never seen 115 oct that is unleaded. Even the Trick fuel 101 should be plenty. My car runs really good with it. I don't really use it much at $6.00 a gallon and even then it may get you 1/10th at most unless you bump timing to run the higher octane.

It all depends on your compression ratio. I was runnin 12.2-1 with 92 octane then with a little work we bumped the compresion up about a full point and now i only run 108 leaded even with the juice. I could get away with 92 but I also like alot of timming in my tune. BUt then again Mine is a track only car. Plus like it was said above if you are running cats leaded fuel will burn them up quick. O2s willl take a little longer but mine burned up in about 6 track days.
The major decision maker is if you are getting bad knock then try to tune it out, or get it close then mix maybee soem 92 and 101 unleaded, unless you are building something lik mine for track only then I would never touch the leaded stuff.
