Default Range day

Did this ever end up happening? Would anybody be up for another go around sometime in the month of December?

Never happened. Now that winters here I would think we could get one going easier than in the summer. Been quite a while since I went through a couple boxes of ammo at the range.

Cool, maybe we should set something up then. I am more into rifle and trap shooting than pistols, so if we pick a place I'd prefer it to have either one of those! Hey Darrin where did you end up finding a house?

New area, just built, off 148th and 40th in Lynnwood. The area around it needs some "cleaning up" but my street is awesome and brand new.

Movers come tomorrow as well.

Hehe I know the feelin... been thinkin about getting one of the new Springfield Armory XD .40's but I wanna shoot one first. Otherwise it'll be either a Glock 21 .45ACP or HK USP .45

You're welcome to try my Gock 27. It's a .40 in the small chassis - plenty of punch in a concealable package. Shoots real nice.

I'll bring my Glock 23 too, and my highpower, both in .40

I have WWII vintage 1911 I can bring too.

You can shoot both of mine if you want Josh, and anybody can for that matter.....

Thanks guys. I'm really debating the .40 and .45... I love the .45's knock down power and how it's less likely to through and through. And I've heard mixed reviews of the .40's so I'm gonna do my own research I've shot the Glock 21 before and I've shot a Sig Sauer .40 Duty gun. I'll try and bring my dad's Super Blackhawk .357 mag too

Your choice of guns should be based on what you want and NEED it/them for........357 mags are great guns, but for CCW they are not worth it in my opinion. Too bulky (usually) and not nearly enough rounds. At my last job we averaged 30-35 Officer-involved shootings a year and when we were carrying Colt 1911 .45's we had a 90%(+) kill ratio. When we switched to Glock 40's (which are fantastic guns) that number dropped to about 40%. My partner & I shot a guy from less then 6 feet away, with 8 hits from our Glock 40's to center mass, and he lived....recovered 99% even though he was on a colostomy bag for the first 3 months and they didn't think he would make it thru the night when he was first admitted............so like I said, it depends what you want/need the gun for. For fun/plinking/whatever, .40 or less is fine, hell even the 9mm (which I personally HATE) is good for that.....but for CCW purposes, I would never go less then a .40 and I almost always carry a .45

Your experiences may vary.

Too bad you guys aren't closer to me. I would love to go shooting with you guys. I was a dealer for over 15 years before that a**hole Clinton made so many changes to the ATF laws that it made being a private dealer so expensive and increased the amount of paper work involved I just quit. I am an avid Colt collector and have many variants of the venerable 1911. I have a custom 1911 that is chambered for a 10mm case that is necked down to a 9mm. Using 115gr or 125gr hollow points it will chrono at over 1600 FPS! It was known as a 9x25 and was developed by Rob Leatham who I beleive still either works with or shoots for Dillon Precision. It was developed for IPSC match shooting because with an effective compensator the gases would actually drive the point of aim down after a 3 shot string!

I shot a coyote in New Mexico at around 20 yards in the neck and it nearly ripped his head off! I couldn't imagine shooting a person with this thing. Carrying with a CCW isn't an option as it is fairly large with its compensator hanging off the end. It has a 6" match barrel and with the comp its about 2.5" longer than a standard 1911. I have thought about building another version of this gun using a Commander frame and a 4" barrel, with the comp and this barrel length it would end up being the same OAL length as a standard 5" 1911. My gun is built on a STI frame and has a 16 round capacity as well. Using the same frame with a short barrel would make an ideal CCW weapon. The same frame for a 45 would hold 12+1, and it has the same external demensions as a standard 1911!

Yeah I'm leaning more for the .45 I love the "you've been hit by a freight train" knock down power. The .357 mag is just a fun gun to plink away with. Interesting about the .40's not having the punch I thought they did. Do they tend to through and through?

Hmmm...

We might have to get together and see how one of those would turn out The only HG I have at the moment is a laser sighted Astra .45

Sounds like some nice stuff TJ.........I have (and use as my CCW gun) a 14+1 Para-Ordnance P-14 alloy frame.........with the extra mag I have 29 rounds of the old Black Talon (now called SXT) rounds that will jack someone up if need be. Nothing like what you did to that Coyote, but good enuf I reckon.
