Thanks Mark We are going to run it on ET Street drag Radials. Once we get it dailed in and hooking we are going to hit it with at least a 150 shot which should put it with or a head of mine

I am with you on the Cobra we all want to hear news like that I need to go get some more files a The dyno and I will snag that file and take a look at it in SAE and Win Pep seven.

BTW Winpep 7 shows my car at 607 RWHP and 561 RWTQ SAE Corrected and 633.88 RWHP and around 600 RWTQ UN-Corrected. There is one huge spike where it hit 845RWTQ where the tires let go on the rollers around 5,800.

UN-Corrected numbers look good but do not stand up season to season

Well I was skeptical as to how stock it was as well. The guy bought the car used with 6k miles on it. I was thinking it may have a tune in it but the torque numbers dont jive with that. I checked the filter and it was stock and it still had the silencer in it too. And even uncorrected, its still pretty interesting.

I still don't understand the difference between WinPep 6 & 7 Ellis. Other than the numbers are smaller with 7. Or why you keep poo-pooing numbers from 6. Seems like it just makes it more like Mustang Dyno #s only without actually loading the car.

I can sort of understand massaging the tq numbers to eliminate the converter's affect. But other spreadsheets I've used indicate I need 800hp to make my pig run the times it does. Actually, most say I need more hp. Please educate me Master Groo....

Yea, it was pretty crazy. There were a handful of others slightly over 400 or just below.

SVTOA Dyno Day.

Mark winpep 6 had a problem in-accurately reporting the correct number. What is so hard to under stand about that? Pretty easy actually.

The problem was not so much with the HP side of the numbers but the TQ side. Now every one likes big numbers but a 200RWTQ error seems to be enough for me to use the more acurate tool

Now as far as the numbers? TQ has as much if not more of an effect then HP at times and HP is in effect a calculation of TQ...IF calculated correctly

I personaly like tools to be as acurate as possible. would you use a TQ wrench that was off by 25%? I wouldn't

EJ. I think it is cool that the car laid down those numbers. Very impressive. But even GM never under reported numbers that far off. I am a little skeptical but hey arent we all. does not take away from his numbers a bit

Do dynos measure torque and calculate power, or vise versa?

I seem to recall a calculus class years ago where HP and TQ were used to illustrate derivatives. IIRC, HP is the force being applied and TQ is the derivative of HP, i.e. the rate at which HP is increasing. It then follows that TQ is more relevant to 1/4 times because it's primarily about how rapidly you can spin up, shift and spin up again, i.e. the rate of change.

It's been almost 15 years since I took those classes, so someone correct me if my memory is failing.

It's not hard to understand Ellis, it's just I've never heard anyone else say it. But then you are the tuning guru, so you should know. I guess I need to read more. It makes sense. I have trouble believing my car makes 760 rwtq with "only" 618 rwhp.

Which brings up another question. If I dyno my car on a Mustang Dyno, will I still have to roll into the throttle so it doesn't blow the tires away, or will I be able to nail it & get an accurate TQ reading? (since I figure WinPep 7 can't help that problem on a DynoJet)

No, they are just functions of eachother. TQ = (HP*5252)/(RPM). If they were derivatives then TQ = 0 when the HP starts to drop.

You inspired me to refresh my failing memory. Converting from one to the other is exactly as you state above. (note: at 5252 rpm your TQ and HP numbers should be equal...I just checked my dyno sheets and sure enough, it works out)

The derivatives I remembered are from:

"Torque is the time-derivative of angular momentum, just as force is the time-derivative of linear momentum:

torque = dL/dt

where L is angular momentum and t is time."

Higher math is definitely a use it or lose it skill. I'm feeling old now.

Yep, torque gets ya moving and hp carries ya along.

All depends on how good you get it clamped down. I've seen good readings from mustang dyno's online but was unable to ge a good reading from Tom's dyno. Kept breakng the tires free and that was with a 100 shot. I've seen s/c cars do the same thing on his dyno.

Pontiac G6 = POS

I have had one for the last two weeks while here in Portland, do not like it.

It rattles like no other, my F-150 with 150K is more solid.

Cant reach the door to close it if you are sitting in the drivers seat.

Stupid ******* door locks stay way up even if the doors are locked, so when you go to rest your arm on the window seal you have this thing poking you in the arm.... BS I say... go GM

Oh, It handles like I have two flat tires in the *** end, wiggles everywhere...

bottom line, me not like
