Well, add me to the list of calling the attorney to have a ticket taken off.

I got nailed headed north on 405 just past beardlsy blvd by the bike bacon thats ALWAYS there. Now I wont say I was free from guilt. I WAS speeding. On the way to pick up Little Boyce from school and Rochelle looked at me and said, "We better hurry or we wont be there on time". So right then I pressed on the accelerator and BLAM! There he was pointing at me to pull over. 75 in a 60 in the HOV lane. Now I am not going to sit here and say "bad bike bacon". Again, I was speeding. However this is how I now know that this isnt a "speeding is evil and dangerous" but its a "get out there and make us some money".

When he walked up to the car he showed me the radar and said "you were going 75". Normally thats when they ask for license, registration, proof of insurance etc. Nope, he just said "what year is the car and license please". No insurance, no registration etc. He had that ticket filled out in less than 2 minutes and sent us on the way. Even Rochelle noticed how much of a hurry he was in to get back out radaring. So I really dont see this as a "public safety issue" but rather a money generator. So, in an effort to spite the system, I will pay the 300 to Jeanie to keep the state from getting thier 71.00 (he was a nice guy and wrote me for 65 but is big letters in the "notes" section he wrote WAS RADARED AT 75MPH FROM 770 FT, so what ******* point was it saying I was going 65?).

Anyways, if anyone else get nailed by the WSP bike bacon in the same area, ask him if he qualified for his toaster oven yet.

 

wow that sucks. it is nearring the end of the month. Sometimes i think they are out there to see who they can **** off instead of providing safety.

 

Radar Detector, Radar Detector, Radar Detector.......I never drive without one.

The Passport or the Valentine One are the only two I'd own. They're not bulletproof protection, but 95% of the time they will be. Mine has saved my *** too many times to count.

i think the way they try and be nice when doing the 65+ in a 60 and putting the 75 is because insurance doesn't see the notes. but that sucks none the less.

 

I understand it sucks, and I hate them cops doing nothing but trying to make a few $$$ just as much as anybody else...but I don't see what the big deal is? You gambled and lost. You got caught. Big freakin deal. I got clocked at 124 in a 60 once...was I mad cause I got caught? No, beccause I WAS BREAKING THE LAW AND GOT CAUGHT! Again, what's the big deal here?

 

So all the insurance sees is the speed?

 

They have access to see the speeds I guess that go down on the ticket, I know when my dad rear ended someone that they sent out a notice about the tickets we have and asked us to be more careful. I think it is marked in notes with something like "speeding >10 over" or "speeding <10 over" and go from there.

Alot of states do the points but as far as I know WA state doesn't do a point system at all.

Ya know what people? I have said this before and I will say it again. There are no ******* QUOTAS!!!!!!! It is PROHIBITED BY FEDERAL FREAKING LAW to have anything remotely close to a quota!!! And I have no idea what this "it is near the end of the month" bullshit is about.......we are not talking about a car dealership that has end of the month revenues/sales/etc to worry about. Boyce was going 15 MPH over and because the guy was able to pre fill out some of the ticket without needing all his info, a lot of you folks just automatically presume it is all about revenue. I could fill out a large portion of the vehicle info on most cars because in those days I was very knowledgable about the various cars on the street at that time. It just isn't that difficult. Year, make, model, color, license plate and registered owner info........pretty easy to do for a late model F-Body if the cop even has slight knowledge about the car.

For the last time, the issuing agency gets LESS then 15% of the amount of the violation.......and that money has to pay for the officer, his training, the bike/car, his equipment, insurance, maintenance on the equipment and vehicle, the radar equipment, etc. Add it up and see how far $15 out of every $100 gets you. I can tell you where, NOWHERE!!!!!!!

The dude in this case was on a motorcycle which means his PRIMARY job is traffic enforcement, ie; writing citations. Boyce was going 15MPH over the limit cuz he was late for something and you people all want to blame the evil cop and the crooked system.

I worked traffic for 2 1/2 years and was never "told, encouraged, suggested to" or given anything remotely resembling an order to write X number of tickets during any time frame. As a traffic cop (motor cop, etc) my (and their) primary job is to enforce traffic laws and write tickets to violaters. Agencies get complaints ALLLLL the time from citizens about speeders or stop sign runners or whatever in certain areas, so enforcement is beefed up there but no one is told, "write x number of tickets or else". It just doesn't happen. I was also close friends with numerous motor cops in my Agency and other ones and since it was their job to respond to accidents, arrest DUI's and write tickets, that is what they do. Period. There is no conspiracy, no quotas, nothing.
Rick, I like you but you are talking out your ***. I worked for 2 different Agencies, I know people that work for dozens of different agencies and my old man runs one here and has worked for several others and not one has had a flippin quota. Not ONE!!!!!! Even my friend at Seattle PD verified that they don't have quotas.

Y'all don't want a ticket, don't speed, leave earlier and drive safely. I have managed to not get pulled over in the 2 years I have been here because I pay attention and I don't speed. Before that, the only times I was stopped in California was for tinted side windows, which is a violation there. It has been over 10 years since I was stopped for anything other then a mechanical violation and those times I was stopped for speeding or whatever, I deserved it. A lot of you routinely admit to driving over 100 MPH, racing, speeding, etc yet you are the first ones to bitch and whine about getting in trouble for it and call names (pig, bacon, etc) to the cop who was merely doing his job and a lot of you sound like you had your civil liberties violated because you got caught. If you don't want the ticket, don't speed or break the law. It is reallllllllly simple.

Rick, the average cop who has more then a couple years on the street is making over $20/hour. His car costs over 30 grand, his training is another 30 grand or more, hiring people to keep his vehicle maintained is another $12-15+/hour, the paperwork the tickets are printed on are not free, gas ain't cheap, the equipment (gun, vest, uniforms, etc) are not free either. That 15% MAX that a Dept gets from writing a ticket doesn't come close to covering the amount spent by having that officer out there. Your "ticket revenue generating quota's" excuse doesn't hold water given the amount of money it costs to keep officers on the street, trained and supplied.

And for those of you who will doubtlessly ramble on about some random small town agency, think about it......a small town isn't usually brimming with crime so to occupy the oficer's time, he will do traffic enforcement, along with 8 million other things that we have to do each day, including responding to calls from people like you guys who need us and bitch that we weren't there fast enough, didn't catch some crime and keep it from occurring, etc. We are never there fast enough to suit the general public and despised when we are around and visible (writing tickets). It is a lose-lose proposition. The laws are there because politicians made them and your average street cop enforces all laws at his discretion..........Boyce got a 33 1/3% break on his speed, which will help him out if found guilty with his insurance. It also REDUCES the amount of the fine the court would/can impose if he is found guilty. So, exactly HOW is this about generating revenue when Boyce (and countless others) are given breaks on their speed? Lord knows I almost never wrote the actual speed on tickets. I almost always cut people a significant break on the speed I wrote them for compared to what they were doing in reality. And again, by doing so, that reduces the amount of the fine, thereby reducing the tiny fraction of the fine that his or her Agency receives if a person is found guilty and a fine is levied.

It seems that everytime someone here gets a ticket (especially one they deserve) a bunch of people whine about quotas, conspiricies, all the money police agencies make from tickets, etc. Y'all really ought to see how much money is generated to your average sized Police Agency annually from citations and compare that to the Agency yearly operating costs of and budget. It is really laughable that so many of you truly believe that some cops are just out there trying to "make money" by writing tickets.


And let me state that I am not upset, angry or spewing at any person in particular. I think it sucks that Boyce got a ticket but these are the chances we take when ANY of us break the law............I am merely trying to point out to you nay-sayers that ticket writing is not the Lotto for police agencies and is a miniscule part of the amount of money that comes in and it doesn't come close to paying for the time, energy, equipment, etc of the guy who wrote the damn ticket in the first place!!

 

Actually in most cases, all they see is the code violated (speeding, running a stop sign, etc) and unless they request and pull a copy of the ticket (which is pretty rare), they won't know how fast the person was going unless the ticket is for 100+ (Cali and most other States have a specific section for that one)

 

I feel bad for you and I do have a beltronics RX65 (see radar Roy web site!!!) to help with my awareness of these things.

That being said I believe you failed the IQ test.

 

I have never had a radar detector. I have found if it isn't the there the officer may be a bit more forgiving if you are plain honest, which has been the case for me. I was stopped going 75 in 50 on this side in my old 98 Z28 it was early and the cop said
"Do you know how fast you are going?"
I said "Yes Sir 75"
He smiled and said "That is a pretty accurate speedometer"
Came back from his car and said thanks for being honest and he let me go.
I chaulk up my tickets to the law of averages, thank goodness no one has stopped me for going triple digits on a public road, so it all works out in the end.

 

I spent 5 Months in a Radar tech school. I will tell you they are more accurate then you want to believe.
