Default -LS1 Swap Thread w/Pics

Here is the beginning of the end for the LT1 in my Z28. In the words of Happy Gilmore,,,, "So looong suckaaaa". I thought about putting this thread in the conversions/hybrid section, but thought you guys might want to follow along. I'll be updating this thread with pics and progress as it happens, so kick back and enjoy the show.

In the last 8 years, this car has gone through alot with me including; a marriage, a divorce, and now an engine swap lol.... Not a whole lot to report right now, but we got the LT1 shortblock removed today, and got the ol' girl cleaned up. She's been sitting in a garage for a couple years since last running back in 05'.

Here are the outlined plans for the black car:

-Speartech Engine Harness
-387 4.125" Darton MID Shortlbock with ARP Main/Head Studs (Bobby's old junker)
-BMR K-Member
-MTI Z1 236/236 .585/.585 112
-Self Ported 5.3's (<<<---- This might change to an L92 setup...)
-LS6 Intake
-Self Ported TB
-Grotyohan 1-3/4" Longtubes
-3" Catted Y-Pipe
-SLP 2OTL
-T56
-LS6 Clutch

Here are some pics from todays fun:

.

Next up is going to be the K-Member R&R with the BMR unit and an LS1 steering rack. We'll probably install the shortblock at the same time. The cylinder heads aren't quite ready, and I'm still deciding whether to use the 5.3's, or splurge for the L92/L76 setup. Decisions decisions lol...

That would be mine. Mike's car is at my place and that is where most of the work will be done. The dragster gave up it's parking spot for the 97.

Ya, the beauty of porting my own heads is that I can open up the chambers to whatever I need to for CR. Should be able to get 62-63cc out of them and seriously unshroud the valves in the process. Still debating about the 5.3's or L92's though. The L92's are a very inexpensive alternative and flow like crazy, especially on a big bore motor like this. I still need to see where the pistons are at (in/out of the hole), and go from there.

Still deciding if I want to have Speartech modify an existing engine harness or just have them build a complete new harness from scratch. Used engine harnesses are getting crazy expensive, and new ones are now well over 300.00. I can get a completely new drop-in harness from Speartech for 750.00 that would be plug/play into my LT1 chassis. ?//?

"Note the work I performed was aimed at optimizing low and midlift flow (usable flow and area under the curve) and as you can see from the results we certainly nailed those goals"

I don't know that engine he is putting in is pretty weak. I heard the guy who sold it to him practically begged him to take it off his hands!
