Default Time for a new exhaust system. Ideas?

My car was throwing the service vehicle code, so I took it to the dealership and they told me the right catalytic converter was going bad. I guess it's time for a new exhaust system

So my dilemma is only this: I don't know anything about exhaust components. My exhaust is stock. I'd love to hear what people in the area use so I could get a head start in finding a system that best suits me. Please tell me about your setups! Specifically, I'm wondering
  1. What brands do you trust (or not trust!)
  2. What does your exhaust sound like? (I want to stay relatively quiet; I don't need people knowing when I go wot from across town )
  3. Anything good to combine with an exhaust upgrade?
  4. Anything I should be wary of :o

Let me know your thoughts! I'm open to suggestions.

My favorites are the SLP 20TL and dual dual. Nice refined mellow sound, stainless steel, great quality. The dual dual is quiet and one of the best flowing exhaust systems around. Buy one of these and you'll never have to buy another.

You can get $145 for the pair of cats on this website, working or not.

if you want to stay relatively quiet then i'd just get a pair of headers with a cat-back (either Hooker or maybe GMMG) are the best sounding in my opinion.

I listened to a stock header, stock y-pipe, dual-dual cat-back hawk on ls1sounds and decided I liked it. But when I looked for a dual dual kit on SLP's web site, the closest thing I found was this: http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=31042

Is that what you're suggesting? Thing is, the first featured bullet point reads, "Includes our infamous Loud Mouth™ resonator for virtually zero flow restriction and the meanest sound around." I'm not sure if I want the "meanest sound around" though, or am I missing something?

I looked and I can't find it on slp's website. I think they may not sell them anymore. It's the stock catback on some of the optioned SS's from SLP. It's not the loudmath dual/dual or whatever SLP is selling now.

Check this thread out. It's a good read. Look at how many exhaust systems some of these guys have had. I have had around 8-10 different combinations as well.

You will have to search around and post a wanted add most likely to get one. The nice thing is they are stainless so you don't have to worry about buying used really. They'll last a lifetime.

3rd time's the charm... I have QTP long tube headers with an ORY, stock WS6 muffler in the back. It's a lil louder than stock, so it's kinda stealthy (well as stealthy as a 110lsa cam can be). But if I decide I wanna be loud I have a switch in the ashtray to open up the twin cutouts on the ORY. I'm thinking about going with the GMMG which will be louder than the muffler on there but not quite as loud as the cutouts but with better tone. Only sound clips I have are the videos on my youtube below with the cutouts open.

I found some dual/duals for sale:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...light=dual+slp

So I may grab one (that's the one you're talking about, right?)

Also, the post says "the I-pipe and over the axle pipes cut for shipping. An exhaust shop can put it back together." Does it matter that the pipe was cut? I assume that's something Ellis can put back together

I got tired of TD's after about 2 months. It was cool for the wow factor but it was just a little over the top. Unfortunately my new setup will be even louder with the 5" downpipe

I suggest the dual dual setup as well if you can find one.

Yeah but you had bullets under your car, they are the worst out of all of them. Spiro flows are the quietest out off the three. Ryan'SS thats what he has. Sounds good too..

Mine really ain't that loud either..

I could fill my car full of bricks and be under that weight.

Seriously son! I need some help getting this weight out. I want no more than a 3200 lb legal raceweight. Bring your plasma cutter up here.

Oh, motor is here, cam is here, oil pump, lifters, and valvetrain/heads are on the way. Things are coming together decently.

I sent a PM to the guy and I'm third in line. But as great as getting a better exhaust is, I still need to get new catalytic converters since they're not part of the dual/dual system, right? SLP has some but apparently they are made to work with their long tube headers, which don't fit over automatic convertibles (like mine). Anywhere else I should look?
