Default F*(king Thieves.............

I don't normally vent on public forums but this **** just pisses me off. My girlfriend takes me to a movie for my birthday on Sunday and we drove her 96 Toyota 4Runner. When we came out, I started the truck and it was LOUD. Sounded like the exhaust fell off. Got under the truck and there was a two foot section missing from the exhaust. Damn thieves stole the catalytic converter in broad F*(king daylight!!!

I know this has been in the news for the last couple months, but damn. How annoying to have this **** happen in broad daylight, in a packed theater (16 plex). It's not even about the money, it's about the complete inconvenience and personal violation! Especially on one of the nicest days of the year so far, let alone my bday! Seeing how upset my girlfriend became after this completely ruined the whole evening we had planned. I hope these guys sell the cat, buy their damn drugs and overdose on them with very LONG and PAINFUL death..... PUNKS!!

Anyone else here locally have to go through something like this? Just curious how rampant this problem is in the PNW?

Wtf? That sucks ***, but at least it's not really that expensive. How much can you sell a catalytic converter for? Seems like there would be a lot easier ways of making money. I've heard of the problem but don't know anybody that has had it happen to them.

From what I understand, the thieves sell the cats to the metal recyclers. They buy them because of the platinum content within the cats. I guess the mid 90's Toyotas are the easiest to hack out of the trucks, but all trucks and SUV's are being targeted.

From what I could tell, they must have used a battery operated sawzall. Must have had alot of practice too because the cuts were very straight. I don't think a muffler shop could cut it any straighter then they did.

guy at work had this happen to him--funny story--- he comes outside to get the mail when 2 guys on bikes drive by with some type of cart behind them full of metal pieces and as they ride by my buddy from work waves to them and smiles because they had waved and smiled at him---1/2 hour goes by and he needs to get going to work when he jumps in his car and its louder than hell--and he tells me all he could say was " Mother F@ckers!!!!!" he knew right away before he even looked under his car they hacked his cat converters off

I've sold quite a few of them. They aren't really worth a whole lot considering all the things you could steal off a car. I got $55 for the one off my 93 and $70 each for the ones off of my Formula. Considering it probably only took them a minute or two to do it though I'd say they can make a lot of money in one day.

Up here they are a little harder to sell. We had to register to sell the ones we had laying around. $65 for small ones and $120 for LT1 cats. When you think about it for the time they spend stealing it(five min or so) it unfortunately pays pretty well. It is less then $500 so the crime is a small one.

It sucks like hell.

A guy I work with said they got his son's Toyota a few months back. They also ripped off the street light wiring in the neighborhood I just moved into. Metal theft is pretty common these days. Like was pointed out, drug money.

I've seen some thiefs rip the copper tubing off of AC systems and leave the AC unit.

I actually saw an add on craigslist a few weeks back that said "We buy catalytic converters." Seems like they are promoting this sort of thing.

^ Out of those metals the big one is rhodium. The rhodium as of 5:30 today sells for $9,160.00 and ounce.
