Default need advice on rear wheels/tires..

Well, im happy to say ive recieved a decent amount of cash from my tax refunds!! anyways, at first i was thinking i was just going to grab some 275/40/17 MT e/t street radials... but after looking at my funds again, i think i would be able to afford a rear set of 15x10 Pro stars + tires. Now, i have NO idea what i need to exactly order as far as back spacing etc... so if anyone could let me know what it is i exactly need to order i would really appreciate it. Im still on the stock 10 bolt, and yes, i know it wont last for ever, but i now have a beater so if the rear breaks its fine, itll stay in the garage.. I've also heard you might need to grind the rear calipers to fit the pro stars? Any info would definitly be appreciated!

also, what rear tires will fit in the back without any crazy modifications?
-275/50/15
-275/60/15
or 295/65/15s?

Spend a little extra and get some wheels that don't require you to grind on the calipers to make them fit.

I wish I had done that. I went with the ProStars and love the look as well. But I had to grind the **** out of my calipers and Im still using spacers.

Another low cost option is to find some used 16's and run some MT DR's.

look, i appreciate your advice. But im asking about 15x10 prostars. im aware of other options, im STILL considering just running 275/45/17 MT E/T streets on my stock 10 spokes and maybe using the extra cash for some brake upgrades. But id MUCH rather have some 15x10 rims i can throw on with some NICE tires, and be able to hook up like no other.

but, since your running pro stars, what size spacers are you using? and would i be able to grind the calipers with a file, i dont have an angle grinder or anything like that.

You can use a file if thats all you have. It will take awhile. I think Im running 5/16 spacers.

Just trying to pass some friendly advice.

i appreciate it Ryan, i really do! man i better buy a few files if i go through with this..

Reason why i want to run 15x10s is ill probably never need a new rear wheel for the track, and i want to be able to run as much rubber as i can. Id actually be happy if i could hook up to the point where i bust my rear end. Really. And personally, theres nothing sexier then a nice looking SS with some weld pro stars.. Ryan, did you end up repainting your calipers after grinding?

it would take forever to grind them with a file...there was a seller here whom i bought some backing plates from, TS6, who was selling a set of calipers that were already ground down for prostars if you wanted to go that route...check the FS section.

And IIRC you need a 7.5 backspacing for 15x10s and a 5.5 for 15x8s

i got the file idea from the link that Hitman gave me.. funny quote:
"If you're a college student away from home and any tools, use a file and drum sander."

I still need to paint my calipers. Make sure you do that if you grind em or buy them already setup. They tend to look like crap if you dont.

Don't forget to set some aside afterwards for a Moser heh.

And also are you aware of the new Greg Weld Wheels? He basically decided to start back up competing against American Racing and redesigned the wheels to fit 4th gen applications supposedly without spacers and grinding.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have not been on in a couple of days.

I have the Summit Pro's. I only had to do minor grinding. When I say minor, I mean, it took me litteraly less than two minutes.

The summit pro's are cut differently than the others. Its money well spent. If you like the looks of them, then get them, but they only come in 15x8 size, with the 5.5 bs. There 15x10's don't have the correct back spacing.

I am not using any spacers, on any of my wheels.

With all four rims, and some BFG G-force's, it cost me around 750.00. Then the fronts I had to buy from Les Schwab's, and to have them mount them along with the new tires cost me another 225. If you go that route, make sure you make it plain as day that you want the metal valve stems. I told them I wanted metal and they gave me the rubber ones with the metal valve stem covers... lol.

15x8s huh....
what exactly are the pros and cons of having 15x10s over 15x8s?
15x8s you dont need to grind?
15x10s you have to grind but can run more tire??
if i went with greg weld wheels over prostars i could save like ~$200
