Default Maaco Paintjob

before you all yell at me for not searching, i tried but the search function currerntly isnt working for me...anyway, here it goes...

My 97RS has amazing paint.... my 94Z28 however...while it has decent paint...its polo green.

i want black. i just converted the interior to black and i want black everything. its just a driver, no shows for me(yet) and i was wondering if anyone had any advice/experiences with a MAACO paint job.

please give me any information u may have whether it be positive or incredibly negative. a price would help too. Thanks in advance!

my old 00 SS had a $400 Maaco paint job from the previous owner (cheap bastard).. lasted for about a year then clear started coming off and every time I'd wash it with soap it would stick to it and have these big purplish spots I had to rub off ALL OVER the car.. not worth it..

you tell me...what do you think? it all depends on the maaco you go to and the prep work you do. take everything off.

Maaco is great save for the prep work. If you scuff it up yourself then they do great re-sprays; but anything other than that and I would suggest spending the extra money. You are looking at a completely new color which entails jamming everything. You will not get a good paint job unless you take every part off the vehicle and get it ready yourself. Spend the extra money and thank yourself later.

well lets just say im pretty sure my car has a macco paint job and when i went to sand down the bumper for my ceta mod the paint started bubbling and comming off in chunks. they also missed some spots and had overspray.
if your looking for a beater paint job go with macco. if not save up and get a 2k paint job with a thick coat of clear to make it shine

Don't waste your money on MAACO... I've actually had customers come to me after a MAACO job and want me to fix their mess, but I won't touch it after they screw it up.

as long as you prep it, give them the car, let them spray it, wait about a month, wetsand and buff the orange peel out, its not bad. i did it once since i could do everything except paint it. did it on my 72 gto while in high school since i had to bother mom and dad to help me pay for a maaco paint job, there was no way i'd be able to do a $4k paint job. after it was buffed, no one knew the difference, was on the car for 5 years no problem, but i wanted orbit orange so i repainted it.

if you take it to maaco it must be ready to roll into the booth and spray or you WILL regret it. maaco uses a single stage paint(base&clear mixxed together) which is fine. however they will do NO tear down or prep work. the car must be prepped for the paint to "stick" properly or it will start to come off in less than a year. for a quality paint job you have to tear down the panels. imagine me walking up to your car and spraying the door w/o me removing the handle, belt moulding, or side moulding. the paint in the cracks and gaps will be paper thin and start to flake off. single stage can produce and awsome paint job. we did a friends 2006 mustang w/ single stage black, wet sanded and recleared. it was slicker than a babys ***. the key to maaco paint jobs is prep prep prep.... meaning you prep it. oh buy the way most body shops wont touch your car after its been to maaco. every one we take in we send out the door in primer and let em take it back to maaco. we cant warranty our paint if its sprayed on top of maacos.

prep the car yourself... and buy the paint yourself.. then take it to macco and just pay for their 'booth and spraying abilities'

good paint can be mixed up at car quests... tcpglobal.com.. etc..

maaco paintjobs are a joke. Ive got one on my 3000gt. there are several overspray spots and drips. the paint on the front bumper is chipping off too.

DON'T DO IT!!!! My friends grandfather had a truck painted by maaco and it was a color change.... and it was HORRIBLE. Like everyone said, they don't do any prep. The plastic window cowl was painted, the radio antenna, the door locks, the exterior window trim, the weather stripping, EVERYTHING was painted!!! I'm not sure if he told them to 'not' paint the jambs, but if that's their standard then apparently they don't worry about under the hood, deck lid, and jambs when doing a color change.

And the fact that you want to do a color change is even worse. You're better off prepping it yourself and taking it to a reputable shop. Trust me you will thank yourself later! You'll be even more worse off than when you started and out a good chunk of cash that you could've spent on a good paint job.
