Whoa that's alot of money. I bet I can get my husband to do it for $175. Check him in the Texas section. Only we're in San Antonio. He has a thread there.

Be carefull, you get what you pay for...I'm lucky I learned that from someone elses mistake. My hood cost me $400 to have it worked to fit and painted top and bottom both sides look like a black mirror from a long time friend.

Good luck, Tom

I was waiting for that comment to come out. It's very true indeed however there are still honest people that are looking to get the business versus you going to a shop. In order for that to happen people like us have to beat that price. More business means more money.

Like I've stated in the other thread if you choose not to go through with it because it's not right for you...no hard feelings ever.

Agreed.

Be VERY careful.

ALOT of things can very the cost of painting a hood.

OEM vs. Aftermarket Fiberglass.
Labor for fitment
Labor for Prep and Spray
Type of Meterials used
Quality of said Meterials
The step process and coats of paint and clear.
Whether the paint blends easy or hard. Black is easier then Silver or NBM
The quality of the workmanship.

Lets just said I paid alot more, but I got the hood Ball parked but needed a lot of refitting and having the nose, fender, and headlight covers redone to properly blend and fix chips on the NBM paint. People who are big into body work who knows when work has been done have complimented to the fact that it looks exectly like stock and with the exceptions of the Ws.9 heat extractors, they couldn't tell if it was OEM or not.

But again, you pay for that quality.

Here are some examples.

I'm painting a 99 camaro hood and spoiler for my neighbor. I just bought a quart of dark blue BASF base coat that cost 128.00 now include thae clear and primer, sand paper, etc.. and you have over 225 just in material alone. I have approximately 4 hours into prep work (fitting had to fix a couple small cracks, snooth it out so it's no so wavey)and probably another 2-3 hoours by the time I shoot the final primer coat, block then basecoat clear coat. it so you figure it out. You get what you pay for. I'm charging him 350-400 for both.

I am in the SA area as well and have been looking for someone to paint my Trans Am fender and probably cover up two little holes in it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I paid almost 800.00 for mine both sides and all the bodywork. The aftermarket hoods usually require alot of bodywork cause of the fiberglass. I got what i paid for which is pretty much perfection.

Mine was $1400

Like LCplmarine98 said...there's alot of prep work into a aftermarket hood usually. I was lucky with mine because Roger picked mine up and did all of it for me after I was told it needed alot of labor to get it in shape for painting. I saved alot of money with his help
