Default LT1 front end on LS1, and keep LS1 h-lights?

I saw a post once of a guy with an LT1 car that he was modding to fit LS1 headlights, it looked promising, just never saw a completed result. I just bought a 99, but I like the LT1 front end a lot better, although the headlights suck *** on there.

What I was thinking is putting on the LT1 front end, molding in the LS1 headlights, cutting out the fog light openings from the ls1 front end, and molding them into the LT1 front end.

Then, take the openings where the fog lights used to be on the lt1 and either making brake cooler ducts, or some sort of cold air intake,

and an LT1 ss hood, and see how it looks.

Times like this I wish i was good at photochop.

opinions? anyone ever seen anything close to this.

its a long winter with lots of time to embark on such a project.

I saw a picture of what you're referring to, didn't look half bad actually. Interesting idea with using the foglight openings for brake ducts, I kinda like that, wish I was still building the camaro for auto-x, or I would try it out when I do my foglight delete this winter.

wow....sounds like a rediculous amount of work to actually get the done. not only does the customizing work sound like a bit much, it really seems like it would be hard to get both sides (pass., driveer) to match up evenly when looking at the car head on. and wowuldnt you need to shape the hood a little to fit the lines of the new headlights. it sounds like a really long/hard job, one that seems like it would end up going unfinished....

but if you're really serious, i say go for it.

yea, it always seems so easy till you get into it. really, the lt1 front end should more or less bolt on. What I have to figure out is how to get the intake to fit up to the throttle body.

I know i need fenders, hood, and the front end, not to mention a litany of brackets, but I think this could work.

What I really need is someone good at fiberglass. b/c there would be a lot of that to go into this.

I also saw the tubular front bumper support from burkart chassis, if that works with lt1 front ends, this could really make things a lot easier. you could weld right to that to create the supports for the headlights, and mounting everything would be as easy an hour fabbing mounts and then welding in place.

The guy never completely finished them and never really went into detail about how he did it.

i really dont think the headlight install would be all that difficult, doing the molding of the fiberglass in and around it to make it look factory would be the hard part.

I think the ls1 headlights on the lt1 would be easier, but with the ls1 airlid, the lt stly hood may become a problem.

Either way have fun doing it and make sure your ready for some down time

looking at those pics, i think it looks sick. There arent enough good angles to see how the fitment is though. Looks like on the outsides of the lights there are gaps that would have to be filled, but the insides look to mount up fairly well.

Not a fan of the round fog lights in the stock lt1 position. I think this throws off the rigid edges of the nose, but.... If i can mold the ls1 fog light openings down on the lt1 nose, those would compliment the rounder headlights perfect.

Im doing this,

Any one have any banged up lt1/ls1 noses to donate to the cause?

The Ls1 boot will fit over the Lt1 throttle body, so no problem there!

its coming along. Hopefully by april or so ill have all the parts in place. there is a junkyard right off of a trail i ride my bike on, and they have a hunter green LT1 that was rear ended sitting in the yard, gonna call after chirstmas is over and see what they want for the whole front end.

maybe see if i can find someone to photoshop it together for me before i take the leap. In the very least im doing the lt1 front end swap, but the ls1 headlights/fog lights would be totally different.

BTW, in the latest issue of Camaro Performers magaizine there is a guy with an lt1 car that swapped in an ls6, looks pretty sick, quite the sleeper too.
