Default Wrecked my '99 T/A

So I ended up rearending someone the otherday cause they suddenly stopped after starting to merge onto a highway from a stop sign. Got the quote from bodyshop and it's $14k so insurance is totaling it. I'd like to buy it back but not sure if it's gonna be quite worth the trouble due to the front lower rail being damaged. Would it be worth getting this repaired and doing the rest myself, or should I cut my losses?

14k in damage? The car is only worth about 14k! wtf! That sucks...I'd say with that much damage you might want to start over with a different car.

Well, that's going by the collision shop's quote, alot of the items are dealership prices (ie $2300 for the hood) so alot of it I could just do myself for way less, but the frame rail is what bothers me, is it worth trying to get that straighteded out and repaired, or replaced (whichever is required) and do the rest on my own or better off just letting it go and start over with a new one...

I say try to fix it. And if you can't fix it, you could always part it out.

If the frame is bent don't bother, unless you want to part it out mainly.

Take it to a frame alignment shop and get a quote. That 14k (high IMO) is for all new GM parts, plus lots of labor. You can find a lot of that stuff used for cheap.

Buy it back anyway, if you can part out and get more money than you pay the insurance company for it. I want to know how much they sell it back to you for.

That doesn't look too bad, you can always clip the frame rails and it will be good as new

I parted out my 95 LT1 after breaking too much stuff. Sucked at the time but well worth it in the end. If you love the car by it back and give it a shot (I did it with my LT1...3 years before parting it out). If you try and it doesn't work out part it out (you'll make more money off of it). Either way good luck, sorry for the loss man it's a shame!

Yea, I'm leaning towards keeping it, even if it would be just to part it out, I have way too many mods that I would want to transfer to the new one if I don't end up fixing this one. And its only $1200 to buy it back so I could definately make more by selling it piece by piece...oh yea, as for the hood, no not really, just a little chipped up front, but looks like paint would be all that's necessary, but the collision shop said I needed an entire new one, so things like that is what made the repair quote so freakin high

I know pictures never tell the whole story. But I cannot see why you would need a new hood.

I wouldn't worry about that it doesn't even look that bad. I had a 91 that was t boned and push in about a foot. Had it straighten and it was good as new. It even drove great. If u are picky like a am though I sold it shortly after and the new owner got tboned so that car was one that wasn't ment to be on the road anymore. Good luck either way.

Yea, I'm gonna be buying it back and parting it out (keeping some stuff for the next one), but if there are some things in particular people are looking for lemme know so I have an idea what some are looking for and I'll start getting them ready for sale in a while with a listing.

Please don't tell me thats a 30th Anni car too!!! What the hell. Did you have the factory bumper support still in there??

As for cost, what I would do is get the car to a body shop to see if it needs to be pulled and once you do that some have had fabrication guys build a front end for it out of tubular steel.

I see the other main issue is body parts and paint which I am sure has driven up the cost.

No, fortunately it wasn't an official 30th, since mine was a '99 and white, I went with the theme though. Yea, it had all the stuff behind the bumper cover, but I hit an older car so it had more durable stuff than mine...yea, most of the parts I saw wern't too badly priced on like EBay and stuff, but bad thing is that I am new to the area here and the body shop has no recomendations of "suitable" shops to do the frame work properly...so given the cost and how much I got for mine from insurance, I figure I'll just find me an '02, transplant the parts that I can, and sell what I don't wanna keep or can't use, and then go from there.
